Supercharger for CA S2000
Anyone have experience with supercharger on a California registered car that is driven on the road?
Specifically, the time and effort to remove and reinstall it every two years to get it smogged?
If so, what FI system do/did you run and how much time is involved in removal/reinstall? We're Were you ever worried about getting busted while you were running FI?
Thanks

I have been in the market and this is what I have gauged from going to the meets and talking to people who are boosted.
You need a smog hookup period. There is a guy on the forums it's not cheap 500 bucks tags to your door. I'm not the guy don't contact me.
For State Ref this will come down to the way you drive. If you are caught racing or driving like a jackass your are going to get pulled over period. It will come down to time of day the cop ect if he pops your hood and wants to be a dick.
Cops now will just state Ref you; it's simple they don't have to check anything just say hey go get your car checked at State Ref for smog illegal stuff.
If you are being rude or reckless high chances of getting a state ref ticket.
I think this is a fear for many people; and most S2000 in CA leave there cars NA and go for a Track build or something they can revert easily. If you go to the meet there is like 1 or 2 boosted cars not many.
As for an install on a Supercharger kit; its going to come down to the kit, fueling ect. Say less then a day if you have the right tools.
Simplest would be a smog hookup an don't drive stupid. I think is why we see so many NA s2000 on the road it's a lot of money and a huge headache to boost in CA.
This is coming from a guy who has has 3 turbo civic's. I want to boost my car as well but the risk and reward is not worth it. If you are building a track only car then go for it; as a street or daily make it will come down to you.
I got poped in Sac but got off with payable fix it tickets; this was like right before state ref was a thing. I was being a jack ass tho; i hit like small rip by a gas station next to a cop. That HKS BOV all you want to do is hear it
I got hit with a illegal exhaust, turbo and bov. It was like 600 bucks in fix it tickets less then in like 2005 or 2006 i forget.

Track down a used CARB legal Comptech/CT Engineering kit or one of the Greddy turbo kits. I know there's a guy on the SoCal S2000 FB Marketplace selling a 2000-2005 CARB CT kit. No need to deal with a hot smog if you have the proper parts.
Otherwise, everything @gotembro said is on point.

almost any mod you do to your car is not legal in California. Modding you’re car and trying to stay legal in California is a waste of time. There are count less amount of heavily illegally modded cars in California and we all do illegal smogs. You must be crazy if you thing people like us pull out out turbo/ems/ fuel systems every 2 years. I’m 35 years old and have been into cars since I was 16 and I have never even done a normal smog my whole life. It’s not hard to find a hook up. Go to car meets, make friends go to shops that mod cars.
also I’m not giving you or anyone I don’t personally know in person my hookups so don’t ask.

Thanks for the replies. I would consider a CT SC, but I'm AP2 and it appears Comptech is out of business, getting support after install seems like it could be problematic.
I'm not surprised it's not to hard to get smogged with mods on the car (for the right price) once it's known that you're not some undercover CARB police...
Right now,I've just got an Injen intake, test pipe and my own pretty well sorted Flashpro tune. Probably 3-4 hours to convert to stock and the same to revert back.
I don't drive crazy around town, but my intake (with VTEC set 3600 rpm) and test pipe can get quite a roar going at WOT. Guess I'll just have to be discreet about where and when I go WOT.
Not too bad for only once every two years.

I don't see the humor, really. How do I go a out purchasing a Comptech if they are out of business and their are no used ones for sale? Also 2.5 hours to revert to complete CARB stock seems hard to believe...
