Thinking of getting a Garrett GTW3684 (Updated with dyno)
ATP TURBO - The Premiere Provider of Turbocharging Components
Has anybody had experience with this relatively new GTW series of turbos? My original plan is to go GTX3582 but budget is not permitting me to do that at the moment or anytime soon for that matter lol
My whp goal is 550-600 on pump gas with meth injection.
I'm also debating on getting the V-Band 0.82A/R exhaust housing or should I stick with the T4 housings? Looking for something that spools maybe a bit later than 58mm turbos but hopefully not as late as Borg Warner S300s (not dissing on Borg Warners, they are very very great for the price and for drag racing their spool up time is not much of an issue anyway)
Many thanks

For the GTW3684 I think the max rating is somewhere in the 750hp range (supposedly my choice being a bit less I guess since I'm going journal bearing). It's supposed to be a Garrett version of the Precision 6262.
But yeah they have the biggest GTW3884 which can go up to 950 according to Garrett. It's supposed to match Precision's 6765

So just an update
After 1 year of my turbo stuff lying around the shop I found the time to do the install and tuning it. All of the custom fabrication was done at my shop and tune on the ECU by me. So here are the basics of my setup:
Garrett GTW3684 journal bearing turbo
AEM Series 2 ECU
AEM fuel rail + reg
AEM 340lph fuel pump
AEM water/meth injection (50/50 on smallest jet)
ID1050X injectors
TiAL BOV and WG
ACT HD clutch
F20C bone stock except for AP2 retainers
Heres my dyno on low boost (11 psi) and high boost (16-17 psi) both on pump gas with the water/meth turned on only at high boost
Overall, I’d say the turbo isn’t spectacular nor garbage. It performed just the way I’d expect it to be and made the power expected (could have pushed maybe up to 530-540+ at same 16-17 psi). It spools a bit late (full boost comes on at 6,000-6,500) so its not something I’d call a responsive turbo on our platform. Given the price though, it’s a good option to Precisions 6262JB series and to BW S300s if youre targeting the same numbers as I did on pump gas

They're a good option for sure, Garrett reliability at a PTE price point.
The downside of these turbos is the turbine wheel, really old design which is really why they can't match the responsiveness of othe more expensive turbos out there.
Did you go with the vband housing?
The responce on the street in the real world can't always be shown on a dyno so I'd say this thing should still wake up quicker than a BW 300 series turbo.

I appreciate you giving info on your setup and the dyno graph. I can say pte 6062bb was at full boost by 5400 rpm. The durability if that turbo was garbage though. Didnt evem last a year

Yes I went with the V-Band/V-Band housing which was surprisingly made of stainless much like TiALs at no additional charge. It made the turbo uglier though by making it longer with an adaptor
On my datalogs 1st gear hits wastegate pressure at 7,300 something rpm already. 3rd gear hits 15-16 psi at 6,200 to 6,500. Have yet to try a rolling 4th pull
Yeah I’d say any current 62mm Precision will out spool this one. Just didn’t want to replace turbos every now and then as I had more encounters of failures and quality control issues with Precision over the years but I heard they stepped up on quality recently. Sorry to hear about your experience

I’d prefer something like the GTX3582R but both of the turbos we mentioned cost twice as much, both ball bearing, and the 3076R is smaller so its really much more responsive but will struggle for 500+ whp on pump gas so it’s really not that much comparable.

I was really hoping the EFR turbos would offer us the responsiveness whilst still using turbine wheels large enough to match the flow of our motors.
Gtx30 running over 500hp is a ticking time bomb imo
