Transmission upgrade V160vsT56
looking into some transmission/clutch upgrades v160 or t56 is what I would like to go with, from post I found on here the carbon twin disk clutch seems to be the way to go. Its a street car so drivability is important to me, I want to launch the car without breaking it every other time so 5.9 axles are already on the list. Any info you guys have would be great thanks.
How hard can it be to make an adapter plate? Whether its an adapter plate using the t56 bellhousing or swapping it out and making an adapter plate for the actual s2k bellhousing to the t56 trans case, depending on motor position and shifter placement...been done both ways.
That wheel stand!
The t56 is what I've been wanting to put into my car, but I haven't done toouch research on it yet. I honestly thought someone was putting together a kit not too long ago... I'll have to do some digging.

I think CNC speedshop was putting together a kit for the t56 trans
LIBERTY transmission/gears made an adapter for bobby I believe using the stock s2000 bell housing. I read a write up on his swap and the whole thing ended up being only $2500 including the faceplating of the gears to bring it safe to 11,000rpm. something a V160 will never see haha. Then all you need to do is swap out the discs on a traditional s2000 twin disc to match the new spline style.

Here is some info on the T56 build for our cars.... This information is based off what the shop stated and the one person that has it installed.

If you want a built T56 transmission that will bolt up to our car this is how it goes. RPM transmissions will supply the T56 core for $1000 so you don't have to worry about finding your own OR you can find your own for cheaper but its a specific model 6spd...98-02 I believe? You will send them your OEM S2000 bellhousing that will get modified by G-Force to fit onto the T56 gearbox. The R&D has already been done by G-Force and they have all the measurements needed to mate it with a new input shaft and all. This build will come with G-Force 1st - 4th dog gears, and you will retain the stock 5th and 6th gears with new sleeves/syncros. Basically, you'll be getting a brand new transmission.
With all that being said...you can use your existing clutch BUT you will need to order a new disc(s) to fix onto the new input shaft. For me, I have the Clutchmasters 725 series twin disc and the new discs are around $250-300 each. The installation of this transmission will be 100% bolt on minus the trans mount/tail shaft. The bracket is pretty simple to make and nothing special. Thick piece of metal, a couple bends, add bushings and you're done. You will need to modify the driveshaft to bolt up ($200-300 if you already have DSS). If you need an entire new one then I'm assuming it will be in the range of $500-800.
The shifter comes with the T56 build and comes up through the shifter hole perfectly.
Total for built T56 transmission to fit our car - $5,700.
This will handle ~1000wtq based on what RPM stated.
Built T56 - $5,700
New Disc(s) - $300-600
Driveshaft mod - $200-300
Mount - $100-200
------------------------
TOTAL - $6,300 - $6,800 for a transmission solution that will take severe beatings.

A gforce/liberty clutchless trans is 6100 but it all depends on what the car is for. Strictly drag race car, wouldn't hesitate to jump on the liberty or gforce trans. Street car a t56 would be a good choice. Also with the gforce/liberty they can cut the input shaft splines and pilot bearing end to whatever you'd like.
I've been researching options as well since my first gear grenaded a couple weeks ago. I have contacted both RPM and Jason at CNC, but it sounds like Jason's may not be out for a bit. Hopefully RPM gets back to me Monday.
