Is anyone running gears with a turbo setup? If so, why?

I believe the Richmond/Rick's gears are stronger than OEM.

I'm running the 4.57's with the Comptech Reinforced Diff. I did this to get a little more torque down low and possibly have better 60' times.

Being turbo, how would you compare the 4.57s with stock? Did you end up with better 60' times? I would think that you would want to stay with stock gearing so that you can stay in full boost longer.

This is a very common mis-conception. If you are trying to get down the quarter faster, go with the shortest gearing possible.
Two cars, same motor, different gears. The car with the shortest gearing will be faster EVERY time, until top-end is met, which obviously, the longer gearing will catch up and blow by. This probably wont happen until 130mph or so...

I'm talking about staying in boost, not getting down the 1/4 mile with the shortest gearing possible.

imho, you would want the first gear to be shorter and the rest to be taller. shorter first gear will get you into the sweet spot ealier and taller other gears will keep you there longer. taller gears will also means less gear shift. however you dont want the gear to be too tall otherwise you will loose acceleration.

I just turbo charged my car and I used to have 4.44 rear with the vortech. the 4.44 rear is still in there atm. I have to row the gear box a fair bit now. It doesnt' take very long to get to 5th gear :D I certainly wish that my rear is 4.11 atm.

I honestly like the 4.57's over stock. I can notice at launch that it just gets up and goes. Because the gearing being lower, you can get into boost a little faster since the RPM's get their faster. Although you are a little busier going through the gears, I think they do have an advantage over stock down low. I haven't been to the track yet so I can't comment on facts about the 60' times. But I believe it will be greatly improved. :drunk:

Whats the point of staying in boost if the cars not faster? The gears on a turbo should allow you to start boosting at a lower speed and get through each gear faster.

wonder why drag racing car don't have 10+ gears on their automatic box :drunk:? most of the fast one locally, that I know, only has 3 gears :)

J/K but if the gears are too small you will have to row the gear box like anything. This might be fun but you are not accelerating during gear shift. The best way to get boost quickly off the line is rev limiter launch or antilag launch :rev:
