Default Turbo guys...Question...

Just wondering how many of you turbo guys have fire extinguishers in your cars?

I have seen videos of horrible car fires, which *seem* like they could have been prevented if you caught it right away, and put it out, saving most of the car.

On turbos, I've seen downpipe studs back out, causing an exhaust leak..in our car, a 1600F exhaust leak will melt/set fire to a lot of neighboring stuff, so I was just curious.

If you DO have one, how big is it, and what type is it (dry flame, etc)

I was thinking about this too, I want to set something up like airplane engines have. Where there is nozzles set up within the engine bay itself, so by a pull of the trigger, it shuts the fuel off, cuts electrical power and "blows the bottles". <----Baller fire protection system on the S right there

I don't have one but I should. Hell any car should have one really not just modified ones. I'll probably just pick up a kitchen extinguisher since those are designed to put out grease / oil fires.

I bought a cheap kitchen extinguisher from wally world. It should put out grease fires. I'm just hoping it has enough volume.

I know two people that have lost their cars due to a engine fire,if they had a fire extinguisher at the time of the fire, they could have saved their cars.Since then,I always carry a fire extinguisher in my cars(in the trunk, not the ricer A-pillar style).

You don't have to have an FI s to warrant a fire extinguisher.

I have a fire extinguisher in the car and have had reason to use it.

The oil return on my turbo came loose and was dripping oil on my manifold. I wondered where all the smoke was coming from but found out pretty quickly. The hot side of my engine bay was nicely on fire.

The extinguisher put it out promptly but only just had the capacity to do it and was empty after. Saved my car though.

I mount it on a rail in front of the passenger seat. Much easier to get to in case of emergency.

I was sitting at a light one day when I started to see smoke coming out of my engine bay thru my vented hood. Luckily, it was just my new turbo blanket breaking itself in (apparently, it's normal for them to smoke a bit after you put them on). Nevertheless, I ran over to Home Depot and picked up a fire extinguisher that same day.

I keep it tucked b/n the floor brace & the passenger seat (like the pic above). A must IMHO.
