Default vortech on a stock motor

hey guys, ok....will a vortech, out of the box and onto a stock 2.0L, hurt it. Now it won't be beaten like a red headed step child, but will it still do any damage, internally?

i would think just some fuel management might be needed to be safer, but what do you guys think? thanks! dan

xviper is running his "out of the box" on his '00 S2000. No extra tuning at all. He's had his supercharger for almost two years I believe.

^ This is so. Many, many S2000 owners have had Comptech and Vortech superchargers installed on their cars right out of the box, without further tuning and they have been very reliable. Common sense, however, would dictate that you at least learn how to "read" your spark plugs to know how the lean/rich situation is and it's not a bad idea to have even a narrow band a/f gauge as a supporting device to reading the plugs. If you don't feel confident about doing this, then get the car checked with a dyno run or two. A wide band gauge would be even more useful but the cost is considerable as I've found out recently, not really necessary if you know how to read your plugs.

ps. The above implies that the installation was done correctly, ensuring that all recommendations have been followed.

I've had my vortech on for 22,000 miles without any tuning. I do inspect and change my plugs every 3,000 miles.

i'am thinking about installing a comptech s/c with a/c at a later date, and wondering at what mileage would it be un-wise to install on stock 2.0 engine? i currently have 28,000 mi. on my'02

I don't think there is a "right or wrong" time to install a supercharger on this car. There have been several examples of brand new cars getting the kit put on before the car was even delivered to its new owner. You just have to use a little common sense in that if you know of something wrong with the engine or drivetrain, that you get that resolved first. Any supercharger add on should only be done on a fairly "solid" car.
