Default Who is interested in an upgraded transmission?

Hey everyone,

I have been talking with PAR and LJ at Fullblown Motorsports about the PAR gear sets for our transmissions. I was thinking about doing their straight cut gears but did not want to have to deal with the gear whine constantly. I know that the straight cut minimizes thrust load on the case. My compromise was to ask if they would do a 1-2 straight cut and 3-6 helical cut which they agreed they could do.

The next thing I was interested in was a better price than MSRP which is around $5200. After talking to LJ, we are looking to see interest in a group buy for PAR gears for our transmission to get a better price. I will not comment specifically on price as I will leave that up to LJ, but there will be a better deal the more people we get. You do not have to get the specific setup I am interested in, you can get straight cut synchro or dog engagement, 1-2 straight 3-6 helical, 1-4 straight 5-6 helical or all helical cut gears. We are just looking to see who would be interested in this setup.

Fullblown is currently running the PAR dog engagement setup in the shop S2000 which had 802 hp.

I want to hear more about pricing just out of curiosity.

Also has anyone using PAR proven that they can take abuse ?

I know they are used quite a bit in other vehicles with great success such as the B/K-series, WRX STi, nissan pulsar, MX-5 but they make a set for a number of vehicles. One great thing about them is that I was able to get ahold of them very easily and have read that they are very prompt with their parts. I asked them specifically of the horsepower capacity of this set in synchro or helical cut and this is how they responded :

"These gearsets have been designed with over 800hp in mind. The tooth
profiles and materials used are all optimised for extremely high torque
levels."

They also offer a pretty good warranty:
"We understand that supporting our products and customers is extremely important. This is why PAR provides a full parts replacement or repair 12 month warranty for any manufacturing, workmanship or quality issue for all of our gearset and drivetrain products for that extra peace of mind. Also covered by the same warranty are any custom gearsets or ratios. "

Gear ratios ?

If the would stock these parts on the shelf that would be nice but you are still dealing with a company in australia that manufactures parts in Malaysia ( which doesnt bother me because reading the flow 5s process which is top tier) and times sitting on ships and on the docks is always a issue.

Now if someone like full-blown was to have say one or two sets on the shelf then this would be the perfect upgrade for most.

That is exactly what I am trying to help setup, make this an easy kit to own, service and beat on for a great deal.

I will message them on their gear ratios and get you an answer by tomorrow if LJ doesn't respond first. I know they will do custom ratios at though.

I'll be in on this if I can get the funds together by next spring as long as the price is VERY well worth it.

On another note . When I had my PPG dogbox I had asked PPG if I could switch it over to a half dog box and they told me the case wouldnt allow anything but one or the other. Size of gears played a roll in this.

I would be intrested in knowing why PAR says they can do it
