Custom door panel/manual window conversion
#12
I have pictures somewhere of a very similar door setup minus the manual windows. They kept the speakers, used two door pulls ala porsche, covered the top bit in alcantara/suede and relocated the window switches to the center console. Looks pretty awesome but I cant imagine it saves a ton of weight. Ive taken the door panels off before and they weigh almost nothing.
the weight savings are going to come from removing the motor and regulator, not so much the actual panels

Honda put automatic windows in the S2000 at the time because they acutally weighed less than the manual set up the were considering. Why would you want to make your car inconvenient? Reaching across the shifter to let down the passenger side widnow would be a pain. The weight savings would be so small that you would be better off running on a treadmill for an hour than messing with your doors.

I'm actually surprised to see that more people are skeptical of it than in favor of it. If this was cheap/easy to do I'd probably be all over it. I think it looks very well done personally. If it looked super cheap I'd absolutely hate it. I can't tell if that's just carbon vinyl over something else...if so that's the only thing I'd want to change. I'd much rather see real carbon used even if it's pricier.

Im pretty sure the power windows come down when you open the top for a reason.... Why make it more inconvenient to put down the roof. It's already a pain in the ass not having a power door lock switch and having to reach over to unlock the passenger door.
