Fender Flare project build thread

Ever since seeing Diez's car I've wanted widened fenders using oem metal. I've never been a huge fan of any of the aftermarket fenders out there and lot of the reason is they are carbon or fiberglass and all it takes is a small bump for some good damage to happen. I've more recently been inspired and read through rob.ok and chilicoke's fender flare threads numerous times and decided I wanted a go at this myself.

I recently had the car repaired after being hit and the paint job that was done left me with a couple panels that didn't match quite how I wanted one of them being a fender. I decided I was going to get them resprayed by someone who would guarantee me a color match and I figured perfect time to take a go at the fenders. One of them was going to be done for sure and it doesn't cost that much more to get one more fender painted so timing was just right.

This project won't be done in a week and will probably span over the next month and a half. My goal is to have the fenders done and the stuff resprayed before the East Coast Honda meet which is May 29. I figure if I work on it a couple hours every other night or so I'll slowly make progress and I'll find a weekend or two in between to dedicate solely to getting this done.

It sure is ugly right now but I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. It could look better but I was only beating from the underside as I was trying to minimize paint damage. I had no intention of laying down any kind of paint or primer to cover up any bare metal.

I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

I plan on getting a few better pics tomorrow in the sunlight. I just couldn't get my camera to take very good pictures in the garage. I can definitely already tell I have more room but it still has a long way to go.

Here are a few other pics from this morning that I believe do a little better job at showing what was done so far.

I know I've got a long way to go but I got to that point a bit faster than I expected. Last night I only used the hammer. I had a feeling the second I used the dolly and put metal on the paint it would start chipping really bad and I didn't have the stuff I need to cover it back up. I think I'm going to make a run by the store tonight and maybe even work on it some more. Just keep an eye out for pictures!
