HKS Spec-L
While waiting on another parts to arrive. I took some pictures of the new exhaust from HKS for the S2000.
Here are some details. https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...59838226_n.jpg https://scontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...4b&oe=545F4C6A https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...0d5874417df055 https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...e3&oe=5467F26C https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...62&oe=54783E4F https://scontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...f1&oe=546EC32C https://scontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...b4&oe=5474EF8F Extremly light, and great finish! Looks like a piece of art. |
I like.
Yea that looks good
Beautiful piece!!
Any info on it or is it the same as the original but with a premium for carbon fiber wrapped tips?
Looks really nice! Too bad it also looks like a 60mm system. When did this come out?

Looking pretty great. Also avoids the pitfalls of a daily Titanium setup. Altho my buddy has had good luck with his.
How do I ignore worthless posts/people?^ |
 cf goodness.

How do I ignore worthless posts/people?^ That paint scheme is awful. Sorry. It is. Is this what you're taking issue with, or is it something else? |
Needs more vtak
HKS makes three ~60mm exhausts for the S2000, and they all sound mostly alike.
Not a fan looks arent bad but sounds terrible imo... oem sounds better than this
I dont like it either. The hks ssm i will take though
Those tips are sexy... :tipwink:

Nice!
I like the sounds. Pricing is fair...considering a change from the Q300 dual.
HKS sounds great.
In it´s place, will take some better photos when the car leaves the shop, at this time it is upgrading the engine/gearbox/dif. mounts and final drive.

Really? ..REALLY? Take that uncalled for and unnecessary passive aggressive crap out of here Ricky happens to be a well respected and valuable part of this community. You're the kind of people that ruin things for the rest of the population. It's his opinion, (a pretty valid one at that) and this is the internet, get off your high horse and get over it. I bet you've been offended by some of the stuff on the status updates before too  |

I have the HKS dual and its heavy... Was wondering what was gonna be next. I love the HKS sound, but the best part is deceleration... Straight music!
Went to listen to SSM because you guys said it was good. You're all mistaken or your hearing aids are broken and you can't be held accountable for your judgments.<div>Hi Power Dual sounds better by far.</div>
Hum, I'm interested in this one ! (Spec - L)

Great choice :tipwink: hehehehe
Here is a little video i made, note it is not full throttle smash but progressive acelleration and changing gears at 8k because i was bedding in the clucth and final drive. But you can hear the beautiful sound (for me) that the Spec-L can provide, not ricey for street. Spec_L |

thanks for uploading all those videos on youtube.
Looks good. I like the carbon fiber tips better than my HKS stainless.
Hi Diablo, those videos were made to send over to Hks Europe and Japan, because the central muffler has somekind of problem, and the noise of the exhaust changed drastic, something went wrong inside the center muffler, it creates a raspy sound in bettwen 3000-5000 rpm´s like open header sound, but soon the vtec kicks in it quietes, and stays normal till the 9000k... The great costumer service from Hendyperformance UK & HKS Europe/Japan    will send over a new central piece of exhaust to replace mine.
All Spec L are recalled ?
No recall, just in mine ocurred that.
Weird, I hope mine will not do that :)

Seems pretty nice.
 |
So want to thanks to HKS Japan, HKS Europe and Hendy performace, by the fast way to handle this process! In two weeks they sent me another new "center piece" to replace the faulty one, now the great sound of Spec L is back!

Love my Spec L exhaust too !

Gentlemen,
I am having the same issue with this exhaust as Trackfreaks. My mid section is making an AWFUL tini noise between 2-3k rpm and then 4.5rpm-6krpm. It is almost unbearable and is exactly as Trackfreaks described. The quality is amazing and exhaust is incredibly light but, something is seriously wrong with that mid section/resonator. I am very very sad as I dropped all this $ on an exhaust that sounds just as bad as my old HKS that had a huge hole in the same center piece that Trackfreaks needed to replace. I will be reachig out to the vendor in a few minutes and I hope they will help and get this resolved in a timely manner. I will keep everyone posted on the progress. I choose to not disclose the name of the vendor at this give time. Many Thanks, Dmitriy |
Vendor rep responded within the first hour and this is being resolved as we speak. Will keep you guys posted, but this is looking really good. Can't wait to have a working resonator.
Can you make a video of that noise ?
And can you describe it a little bit |
Sounds like a trumpet/rasp. It is much louder than the exhaust note itself.
https://youtu.be/g41dWC2QDhY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g41d...ature=youtu.be |
thanks for making the video. Even though I dont have this exhaust I got my used ASM the other day and it sounds the exact damn way although not as bad as yours. What kind of resonator do you think you will get? A HKS replacement or something like a Vibrant???
Whatever HKS send my vendor. Vendor is being very helpful and apologetic btw.
I am under the impression HKS has a redesigned piece that will be replacing faulty units. It sounds like HKS knows they messed up. |
Ah yes, we can now identify the sound :D
My Spec-L is not doing that noise. |
Glad to not be the only one with the HKS SPec-L fauty ressonator pipe, HKS sent me another replacement, and it was ruined also in the day after i instaled it on a trackday...
I solve my problem replacing it, by the HKS SSM, and could not be more happier! LOVE it even more than the spec L, the sound between 1000 and 6000 it is OEM style, after that remind´s my Evasive 70mm, raspy till 9000k, and ZERO drone. https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...3494833a65086e https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...3713b4779c144b https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v...94&pnref=story |

Oh man, that looks killer.
this bumper is too much for me :D

Vendor was able to take care of me in under two weeks. The new and redesigned mid-pipe with new resonator replaced the problematic section. Exhaust sounds fantastic. The only downside is that the weight difference between the two is noticeable. New unit is noticeably more heavy but, I'm guessing they used thicker materials in the new resonator which I am fine with.
Now, added weight aside the new SpecL exhaust uses crush type gaskets so that eliminates pretty much ALL/ANY leaks. I highly recommend this version over the original version if you are running any sort of boost as it seals amazing compared to the original HKS exhaust where your gaskets would take a beating from the heat and you'd have tiny leaks here and there. Weight benefits aside, this SpecL is the new exhaust to use especially if you are Supercharged.

Just installed my Spec L on a 2007 AP2. I have fitment issues.
Exhaust is too forward and high. It causes the mufflers and tips to reside inside the bumper. Any advice? https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...b2b0ae9696.jpg |
Two people. 1) Get back under the car 2) Loosen everything after the resonator, it’s after cat/str8 pipe 3) Have the 2nd person hold the tips in preferred place as you tighten everything You could do the same by just loosening connections behind mufflers, however, it looks so skued in your photo that I’m more worried about your hangers and further forward connections. |
Thanks for your response. Ive been informed that I need to use my OEM three prong hangers since my car is a 06+. It allows for muffler to hang lower.
