He's exporting pre-owned S2000's into Taiwan. They bring big bucks. I sold a new 2009 GPW CR to a Taiwanese importer. Paid nearly sticker new, but he already had it sold to someone for almost $60K USD after customs fees and duties. It seemed ridiculous at first but you can't get CR or anything close to it outside the US.

If it's pre-owned I think they get a customs duty break so it's not as bad.

A gray market S2000 is probably cheaper than the S2000's in their own country (if there is any)

I think, quick calculations seems Australia and Taiwan generally similar priced for an S2000 at least based upon MY06, probably Taiwan bit more expensive.

Its wierd, I actually saw an S last time I was in Taiwan and didn't know how few there are there. My parents home town is Ping Tung.

FYI: Taiwan drives LHD and cars in general are expensive to purchase there. They seldomly sell new cars in Taiwan due to the high rate of taxes on new cars as well as low mileage cars. I think its something ridiculous like 75% tax on a car one year old or less with 10,000 miles or less.

i saw a gpw near 士林 when i was in Taipei around December 2009.

i think it had bronze ce28 and maybe a hardtop, don't really remember because i was on the MRT　and we flied past 士林夜市　but because it was so rare, it caught my eye

Yeah, I've never seen any in Taiwan either. There are a lot of Mercedes and Bimmers though. I figure the reason why there are far fewer S2000s in Taiwan is because the people with the money to buy a non-manufacture imported car would rather spend their money on badge and luxury. Driving stick in Taipei must also suck donkey balls. I see a few old school taxi drivers still doing it.
