Hey guy and gals, there are some really good roads to drive between my hometown of Charleston WV and Marietta. Marietta is normally an hour and fifteen minutes on the Highway but the backroads look more like 3hrs.
so if this works out for anyone on your travels to Marietta or if you want to go out of your way to do it, let me know. We could meet in Charleston and go to First watch for a late breakfast/lunch/brunch around 11-12 and then head out by 1-130 putting us in Marietta by 5.
Old US21 is still there - at least the pavement is.
In WV US 21 ran from Bluefield thru Charleston to Williamstown (opposite Marietta in the Ohio River) roughly parallel to I-77, before it was decommissioned in the early 1970s. The former route of US 21 in Kanawha, Jackson, Wirt and Wood counties is marked as County Road 21 in each county. Interesting that there was never a WV21. Not exactly the mystique of tracing US66...
