WV Hellbender 2023
I'll probably do the "Back of the Dragon" route from Marion to Tazewell, as I'm coming up from NC, and maybe detour to Burkes Garden, before meeting up in Summersville that evening.

Is there a drive on Friday morning? I booked a room from Friday to Sunday but trying to plan when to get there.
This one is in my backyard so it’s tempting to try to come down Thursday if I can manage it. If anyone is passing through Charleston we could caravan down.

I just PMed this to Robm but decided to put it here as well in case anyone else is Down early and wants to do this either with or with out me depending on when I can get down there.
I may be able to get down that way Thursday. I live an hour and 20 mins from Summersville and our family summer home is 50mins on the other side. If I can make it down early enough (or at all) Thursday I’d like to drive with you. Or alternatively on Friday. I’m not clear whether there is a scheduled drive on Friday or not.
If I don’t make it to join you I recommend driving down to Fayetteville, 30 mins south. On the way turn right onto Rt 60 and head over to Hawks Nest park for a beautiful overlook, take 16 to loop over to Fayetteville New River Gorge National park is there. Lots of great places to eat. Cathedral cafe for breakfast. Southside junction or Pies and Pints for lunch. Drive down into the Gorge on the one lane road for some beautiful views. Don’t worry the S will make it without scraping. A tram goes down the mountain from the hotel if you’re into that. If you want to go further south, head on down to Hinton. Good curvy roads going through Shady Springs way. If you end up doing that, the Dish in Daniels is a great place to eat lunch.

Have you been to "The Vault on Main" for dinner in Summersville? A step up from pub grub?

There are a couple of informal drives going on.
