4.77 gears for cheap!
 

I ordered my 4.77 final gear set from www.kiaparts.com yesterday, they shipped the same day and already provided me with a Ups tracking number :D And the best parts is I got them for $259.00 shipped.
I will most likely have Inline Pro do the install for me. If any one has any suggestions of some who has done their install or labor charge please let me know. Also if anyone is currently using these gears, let me know your impression of them.

Edit: Upon checkout of the site I only see parts for Kia vehicles, how did you get gears for an S?

The KIA 4.77 gears are interchangeable to fit on our cars. Its not that they have S2000 parts its just that you can use their 4.77 gear on our cars... I may have to go this route aswell but will probably get them coated with whatever the gears on here are being sold with

The final drive for kia sportage 4.77 , works with the s2000 as well as the mazda final drive of 4.44. If you do a search for it you'll see a boat load of info confirming that it does work. If you have trouble finding the info I will try and post the links to it.

pardon my ignorance, in addition to the gears, what else will you need to purchase and how much will it cost? also, how much does installation usually run? what are you expecting to pay in total. thanks.

You will need to or should replace pinion bearings and seals as well some washers and a nut. If you still need details I can get them to you in a few hours once I get home. Install I got quoted was $350.00 if you take the Diff out $850.00 if you take them the car. The bearings and seals will run you $200-250. Again I can give more details later today if you needed.

Here is a link to show the explosive view of the parts involved. Im choosing to replace # 28,29,31,10,11,23,26 I think thats it. As well as the 4.77 from kia. On # 11 your only going to need one of the shims. but you won't know which one untill the install. So you could either let the shop order them for you or buy the master shim kit

What a coincidence. My car has just been dropped off with these same gears, as we speak, to be installed.

Here's what I did:

--Bought gears from local Kia dealer (pricematched kiaparts.com + local tax): I did this in case there were any problems with the order...

--Purchased an install kit from HardTopGuy here ($150):

--You'll probably want one of these as well to correct your speedo ($55) (Yellow Jacket , which is different and cheaper than the Yellow Box!):

--And then you'll want to top off the diff with this ($15/qt) (LE607): Get a couple quarts since you'll want to change the fluid after breaking in the gears (about 500 miles per Rearend Specialties, my local diff shop)

Then I took all of this to the diff shop. Find one that specializes in domestics and trucks. They're usually quite comfortable with these kinds of installs. They replace rear ends and do gear swaps all the time. Import shops are *usually* more familiar with FWD cars...YMMV.

My quote for LABOR ONLY (I bring car in, they take diff off, install gears, put diff back on) was: $450.

They're pretty close I think. The only difference is that Rick's sells the YELLOW BOX and not the YELLOW JACKET. Also, www.modifry.com sells the YELLOW JACKET direct to consumers.
