Default AP1 4.77 vs 4.57 vs 4.44 Final Drive

Hey guys,
I'm looking To change final drives but choosing which one is a difficult choice. It's for my AP1 S2000.
I want to have a good FD for track but also accommodating street use as it's my only car. I do a fair bit of freeway driving to so I figured the 4.77 might be way too short?
My local track requires the stock final drive to be mainly in 3rd and 4th gear, while sometimes down in 2nd for a couple tight corners.

Any input would be great from past experiences.

i heard people with 4.56 can keep up with nsx, from 20-90.

but im going gears or at least trying to and im wondering the same thing

but for freeways, 4.77 are fine, i think its about 1k more?

(1k in rpms)

see the gear calculator to see the shift points, rpm, and how it correlates to mph, use that to reference your daily driving habits and how it'll affect driveability at the track.

i currently have a 4.44 FD. i like it. love it? ehh maybe. they do pull the car harder than stock, but nothing like 4.77. but they are very easy to live with. i have 72K miles on my MY06. so i DD alot. i have an exhaust so having a 4.77 would kill me on the freeway. i heard gas mileage isnt effected much. i still get about the same and moddiction has 4.77 and still get 300 miles to the tank cruising at 80mph. i choose 4.44 because its different than stock but not to different. 4.44 are easy to live with. 4.77 are way too short. i think puddymood commented that at an intersection left hand turn, from dead stop he would have to shift to third by the time he completed the turn. that is way to short for me. with my 4.44 i still shift pretty much at the same mph. so the driveability is slmost like stock. but there is a definite hard push in acceleration. it does feel faster. i had my 4.44 on my first autox event and i posted 2 second faster than the next fastest s2k. city driving is pretty easy with the gears. any gear for that matter. no low end torque? the gear definitely will help you out. not like my 8 lb flywheel. not really that relevant, but kinda related. depending on your mods. but with my set up, i can keep up with a sc s2k with 290 whp til about 3rd gear. after about 80mph he is gone. 4.57 or 4.77 could do a better job with less of my mods.

but why like and not love? gearing. of course changing the FD will effect when to shift and the max speed of each gear. with that said, since i have and ap2 and i raised my redline to 8500, my max speed of my 4th gear is 98 mph. that would involve me shifting to 5th gear in a quarter mile. instead of 13.5 seconds, im at 13.8-13.9 seconds. (maybe i shouldn't be granny shifting and double clutching like i should be ). but i am definitely faster ion a 1000 ft. and then on one autox event, i posted the slowest time because the way i was geared, i couldnt hold first gear long enough or i had to stay at the bottom of second and wanted to be in first.

this is not to say that 4.44 is the absolute choice. 4.77 is liveable too. but does anyone make 4.57? i wouldnt mind that one either. but i heard they can be a bit loud. but 4.57 are said to be the strongest. if i started all over, would i still get my 4.44 yea i would. but if i had the chance to get 4.56 ot 57, would i think about it a little bit longer, yes.

P.S. have you searched yet? i think this is my 3rd time giving my opinion. there is an official gear thread.

i've got the 4.44s and like ans2k said up there i like em but they could be better
the added tq feeling is nice but its not anything WOW worthy..if i had the chance i would have gotten the 4.56 but they are discontinued so very hard to find :[
id say deff go with 4.44 over 4.77 for DD tho because the rpm change isnt really noticeable for highway which is good, i read the 4.77s will do a good amount of aging to your motor if you always cruise at fast highway speeds with them
and you still definitely feel the difference with the 4.44 even if it isnt a night and day difference

Ive got 4.77s and I love them, you know when you go to pass someone on the freeway at 70-80mph and in 6th gear you put your foot down and nothing happens? That disappears with the gears. My favorite 'test' was turning left under an overpass, be in 2nd as I straighten up and then gun it, before gears I would be right before vtec when i got to the other side of the overpass, but with 4.77s im at 7.5k rpms when I hit the other side, going much faster

Do I think 4.77s are too much? Not at all, if your worried about freeway cruising, just hop on the freeway and leave it in 5th gear for awhile, see if it annoys you. Thats basically how it will be, except in 6th gear obviously. Honestly the difference wasnt as big as everyone was making it out to be (however I think I have a weak 'butt dyno') so im glad i got the 4.77s as if I had gotten something more subtle like 4.44s I probably wouldnt have been able to notice a difference at all.

The one thing I dont like about them however is that 1st gear feels way too short, you redline it and feel like you havent moved anywhere. 2nd and 3rd gears are amazing though.

Best way to describe them is more added torque down low and you get into vtec quicker, and then you feel cooler while getting on it because you shift a bit more
