Default AP2 Drive Train in AP1

Anybody running an AP1 with AP2 tranny driveshaft and differential? Just wanted to get some feedback on it. Also what clutch/flywheel are you using? I'm looking into doing this but wonder if its worth it.

I run that combination. You'll like it, it will deepen your overall gear set and give you a nicer feel at lower rpms. The prop shaft and differential housing are a little different and can take a bit more abuse that the original ap1.

I recommend it as a good upgrade to an ap1.

^^^

Agree. I'm running this setup as well in my 2001. I did the complete Ap2 tranny, drive shaft, and Ap2 reinforced Diff from Puddymod.

I did some research before doing this myself on this forum, and saw that everyone who did this was very happy with the result.

To me it just made perfect sense, since the ap1 2 liter has less torque than ap2, the ap2 tranny really helps with the low end acceleration since 1-4 gear is slightly shorter. Its like running a new final drive gear without giving up the low RPM high way cruising.

I'm running reinforced PP, toda flywheel, and stock clutch for my setup.

yes but it's offset by the deeper reduction gear.

1 thru 4 gears are actually the same. What they changed was the reduction gear which affects them all and compensated 5th and 6th.

When I got my AP1 it came with the AP2 tranny..... I had to put an AP1 back in it after the AP2 came out for a weird leak....

I definately noticed the difference....1-4 suck and my gas mileage suffered... I was getting 30 mpg and Now I average about 27 mpg

I still have the AP1 shaft and Diff, but I can't wait to put back the AP2 tranny after its rebuilt.

Sure...If you're on a budget keep your ap1 flywheel, it's already light. An ap2 one is heavier. Comptech if you want but IMO you don't gain enough to justify it over an ap1.

I don't have a recommendation for you for a clutch as I've been boosted so long I don't know what's out there. I run a centerforce dual friction 8 puc but that's overkill.

I'm sure you'll get some opinions. The only think I don't like about straight puc clutches is they have no finesse. It's either in or out. that's why I run a dual friction, best of both worlds.

I have this set up with a SC and ACT PP and comptech flywheel. Also have 4.56 gears awesome combo, recommended. I got my trans with low mileage from a junkyard, they shipped it right to my shop. Saved a ton of money.

Wow goldenfri I had my mind set on this setup for a while. As im about to purchase my friends comptech SC. I was going to do the AP2 Drivetrain ACT clutch and comptech flywheel. Looking for a clutch thats still driveable in traffic..cuz i run into traffic from time to time..for like 15 miles of stop and go. Hows the AP1 flywheel compare to the comptech? Is it worth it? Stiffness of ACT?
