AP2 "Support Bar" Removal.
So i am in the final stages of designing a "Snorkel/Scoop" for my AP2 and as most of you know there is a "Support bar" behind the bumper right above the grille. Ive heard different opinions about this bar. Some people say its just for stability others say its there in case of a front end collision in which it protects the front end of your car to a certain extent. I cant see how 4 bolts holding the bar would do much for a serious collision but maybe a small one.
Id like to know all of your opinions on this bar (what you think its there for) and if you think it would be good/bad if i were to remove it.
Thanks for reading, here is a picture of it while i was fitting a test model of my scoop.
Its a black round bar to the left of the cardboard model.

i'm on the fence about it, although i did remove it to install my snorkel.
I just don't know what it's for. It doesn't seem like a crash support since it's so tiny, so it should be for rigidity, however, it's located inches away from the front crash/support beam, which i would think does WAY more than that tiny bar in terms of rigidity.
who knows....i mean, it HAS to be for something. Honda didn't add it for giggles, but i can't figure out why.

Chris,
I will have to agree, i doubt its a crash support. If its for rigidity would it really even do much being there? You are right it must do something other than increase the weight of the car and block my scoop design. But what???
I think ill be taking this off tomorrow while testing my scoop again.
Thanks for the extra confidence to rip this thing out.
Anyone else have some opinions?

I don't believe it has any value in a crash, but I do think it is there for rigidity. The big I beam behind the radiator is the only welded support connecting the two sides of the frame at the front of the car, so I believe this bar is there to reduce flex, since 2 supports are WAY, WAY stronger than 1.
