Hi everyone. I have searched for an answer to this question, but found too much conflicting info, so I was hoping someone could give me a straight Yes or No answer.

I'd like to run a square set up using 4 rear AP2V1 wheels. If I was to run 245/40 or 255/40 tires, would I have to roll my front and/or rear fenders? I should also mention the car is lowered probably a 2 finger gap at all corners.

no. At least, I haven't needed to. Running 200 UTQG tires, square with 255/40r17. F -1.7 R -2.00 camber.

Do you have the AP2V1 wheels? Just curious as your profile indicates you have a 2006 car. V1 or V2 (or V3) shouldn't make any difference.

Maybe find another owner near by and "borrow" his rear wheels (or even one) with the 255 tires. Can make fun morning -- you'll be buying lunch of course.

No issue whatsoever with 255s on the rear of my unaltered 2006 car (AP2V2 wheels) for the past 10 years. Might take a fender roll if I was lowered. Front? Darcy says it's possible and he has direct experience in many facets of our cars.

Think you need to bore the wheel center out for rears to fit on front

 

Correct, the front spindle/hub bore is about 70.1mm, while the rear is about 64.1mm. 20+ years of measurements show minor variations in the exact diameters with some confusion (on my part!) of bore vs spindle measurements. Regardless the front bore is about 6mm or 1/4in larger and the OEM rears will not mount on the front. Also the spare tire, which has a small overall diameter, must go on the front to prevent damage to the Torsen differential i.e. in the event of a rear flat the front tire has to be moved to the rear and the spare put on the front.

I'm sure there was a valid engineering reason for the different wheels ...

I have both sets of wheels. Always had the V2, but recently picked up some V1s. Wasn't really actively looking for them, but the price was too good to pass up.
