Ballade Sports Clutch Kit/Flywheel

I had purchased my S2000 a little over a year ago with just shy of 150k on the clock. No modifications done, no accidents, it was the perfect car to me. After about a year of ownership and 25k harsh miles I noticed the clutch had begun to slip. Looking over all the records I have from new I didn't see any records of the clutch being replaced. I see plenty of people running a OEM disk and a upgraded pressure plate but I wanted to try something a little different than everyone else. I couldn't find any reviews on Ballade Sport's clutch kit aside from the N/A kit they offer, even then it wasn't a very elaborate review. Eventually I placed my order on their Forced Induction Kit (Supercharger) and 10lb Flywheel (I do plan to have forced induction within the next couple months).

1st Impression: The pedal is MUCH lighter than I expected, lighter than the OEM clutch I had, but not in a bad way. The grab point is similar, just a little lower than previously. When it grabs it's a bit harsher than before which I expected. It's similar to the Competition Clutch I had in my Nissan 240SX (RB25) where it's a on/off type feel. The quality to me is well above par. The clutch disk doesn't have any weird markings, paint marks, ect. The pressure plate looks OEM aside from the few marks with part numbers. The flywheel of course doesn't look OEM but looks like it's well designed. The only thing I noticed is there was a spot for the flywheel to have a dowel pin to center it and the flywheel did not have that.

Overall the parts looked great, and function well. Being I only have around 75 miles on it so far I will have to update later down the road. I didn't take pictures but I think their website shows it pretty well.

**I am not associated with Ballade Sports, this is simply me giving my opinion on their parts**

I’ve been very interested in this clutch kit and was having trouble deciding between this and the ACT/OEM combo, eventually chose the ACT due to being tried and true for my goals. Happy to hear good things about the Ballade Sports clutch though, I’m running their radiator and motor mounts/transmission mounts as well as oil pan baffle and have been very happy with all the products.

Update after a little over 2000 miles.

Good news is it's still working like a clutch should, bad news is the clutch is still lighter than my liking. The on/off feeling either went away or I've just gotten used to it again, not sure which one. No more shudder when taking off from a stop which is nice as well. Overall I like the clutch kit, however I don't think I'll buy it again for one simple reason; pedal feel. The pedal is lighter than just about any car I've driven before and I really dislike that part. I know some people think the lighter the better, but not me. Kind of reminds me of a light brake pedal or light gas pedal. It's there for sure, but it's hard to gauge where exactly the pedal is and when you're hitting that sweet spot, just comes down to preference I suppose.

If anyone has any DIY ideas for fixing the light pedal, please comment or PM me. I'd appreciate it.

There is no DIY to fixing pedal feel as this is strictly pressure plate related. Only solution is to change the pressure plate.

I had figured, I didn't see any helper spring or anything of that sort on the pedal assembly like some BMW's have.

I have the ballade sports n/a clutch kit and flywheel. It has lasted me all of 20k miles. When I went in to have it inspected one of their employees mentioned that they had one instance where the kit failed after 10k miles. The only mods i have on my car is a K&N intake and tanabe medallion touring catback exhaust. Ive been driving stick since 2008 so Im pretty sure driver error is not the culprit

I saw that today. I'm really curious as to the reason they were banned.
