Driveshaft Shop 2.9 Axles
 

Alright so after several weeks of trying to see what my options were, I decided to go with Driveshaft Shop for new Axles. OEM was an option, although even with the discount from my work it was still way too much to get a part with this big of a known problem. I read up on USA Industries (AutoZone), FEQ (Advanced Auto/WorldPac), Gator (I have yet to hear anything good about), and even called a few local shops around here who could make custom axles. The problem I kept running in to was that nobody could guarantee a perfect fit while being completely reliable down the road. Driveshaft Shop had their ordeal of this problem up until they redesigned their axles so I have read several times. After a couple weeks, I decided to put on my big boy pants and spend the money on new Axles.

First of all I must say that dealing with Enjuku Racing on ordering these axles was a breeze. Constant communication, helpful people, and a hell of a price (<$1000 shipped to my door).

My first thought after opening the box was that they looked extremely well build. All 8.8 hardware included, properly painted/coated (no drips, scratches, ect.), and everything looked NEW, not like it sat on a shelf for weeks/months waiting to be shipped out.

After looking the axles over, I noticed a few more things in depth. The threads were sharp and had a small thread pitch to them, they look great. The shaft is a little thicker than OEM, but didn't really weigh too much more. The boots were a thick rubber, not thin and flimsy like most aftermarket pieces. The entire Axle looked like it was professionally made with the right parts, which by the way was extremely relieving after spending the money on them :crazy:

I will update after I install them to give more of a review on these Axles. AS of right now though, I must say I am impressed. :LOL:

You don't need driveshaft spacers if you replace the axles entirely.

So can these be more easily rebuilt later down the road, so next time its just replacing joints, not the whole axle?

From my understanding yes they can be rebuilt, these axles are pretty much bombproof I don't think the average owner will brake them and if you do they sell stronger axles than this which for me would be way overkill.

I was thinking wear them out, not break them. Hopefully all owners will be able to 'brake' them!

According to DSS, the 2.9 axles are meant to be a bolt-on fix to the issue and no spacer is needed.



DSS sells three levels of axles. Level 0 is an OE replacement, which I haven't heard much about. The level 2.9, the ones I have here, are supposed to be a long-term fix to the common CV failure and an overall good axle for cars with some power modifications, including forced induction to a point. The level 5.9 axles are apparently the bee's knee's so I've heard and are one of the best pairs of axles you can get, I just don't think it would be worth spending $1800+ on axles that I have no intention of coming close to breaking.

I haven't installed them yet on my S. With the State fair coming up soon I'm hopefully going to have time to have them installed (the fair is a mile away and we're dead for the week usually).
