Harness and rollbar install
#12
Tonights progress:
Finished machining the eyelet inserts and fitted/welded them into the bulkhead. Tomorrow the front and rear reinforcement plates will be welded on. I made sure to tighten the eyelets fully to determine their orientation in their respective insert to ensure they would be vertical after welding.
Enjoy.

Finished up the install of the bar and shoulder harnesses. Still have to refit the rear package shelf to keep interior noise low, and mount the lap belt and anti sub belt eyelets.
I was able to fabricate some nice backup plates, .080" which meets SCCA Pro regulations for backing material, for the harness eyelets, and fit them on the backside while still having enough clearance to mount the pretensioners. The belt location is ideal for the seat I'm using, within the 0-20degree below horizontal guideline for shoulder harness mounting.
The rollbar fits right to the top of the headliner on the hardtop, giving maximum rollover protection.

You are misunderstanding the installation I believe.
This will pass tech, which I have plenty of experience with having built numerous racecars and cages at our facility in past, and have a mechanical engineering degree to back my design work up with. This design meets all regulations specified in the 08 World Challenge SCCA Pro Racing rulebook.
There is a one piece steel insert that joins to the back panel on the bulkhead and to the backing plate, just as in your diagram. It is also welded to the forward panel on the bulkhead increasing the stiffness of the bulkhead and helping further improve resitance to pulling through.
What you don't understand with your diagram there, is that the .060 sheet metal the bulkhead is manufactured of would simply distort/deform allowing the belts to slacken and potential injury to follow, if you were to simply install a backing plate behind just the forward piece of sheet metal.
There is no need for you to continue banging your smiley face against a brick wall.

As long as it will pass tech you are good.
What I show is just my understanding of the rules which granted has been about 1 year since I have read the rules.
Wonder if the World Challenge SCCA Pro Racing rulebook rules are different then the GCR/Solo Rules?
There has got to be something I am just not seeing in the pictures.
But if you are ok with it then go with it....
To each there own
Still hope you never get in a condition where the harness would be needed.

Pretty sweet install Andrew.
Also heard you won the time attack at cayuga a couple weekends ago, congrats.
I plan to get a hard dog eventually... it's on the list anyways
