Help - s2k shocks/coilovers
Hi guys,
I bought an s2k recently (2000 jdm) which came with 18" wheels. The car has recently been in for its MOT and one of the shocks (front left) needs replacing. I have noticed recently that I can hear rubbing/scraping when driving over a bump if I'm driving fast enough. My current guess is that this is due to the shock that needs replacing but I'm not 100% yet. The shocks/springs are standard oem. I'm not sure whether to just buy an oem shock replacement for the one that needs replacing or just change all 4 or go to coilovers. I'm not particularly interested in lowering the car, I don't want it to scrape at all so coilovers might be a bit of an overkill. I don't use it for track days either so it'll only be used on the roads. I've read loads about coilovers and shocks/springs but can't find much help when it comes to the 18" wheels... are these going to be a problem for me? I'm not sure what the offset is and whether this can be easily calculated? My initial thought was to go with coilovers so I can easily raise the car if I needed to but perhaps if I find the right set of shocks/springs I should be fine, I just don't want to spend the money and have the same problem again. Tyres are 225/40/18 all round, toyo t1-r's. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks |
Here's what it currently looks like by the way...

I would just look for a set of low mileage used AP1 or AP2 shocks in your local FS forum thread. Another alternative is to get Koni's shocks.

Thanks!
If I get the Koni shocks (unlikely mind you...), would I need to change the springs or am I fine in keeping the oem ones? Also - with standard shocks am I right in expecting not to have any sort of scraping issues with the wheels I'm running? |
