Default HKS dual with Berk Test Pipe

Hey everyone. The car I bought has the HKS dual and a berk TP. It’s loud with the top up and I do some long trips for work with it. Would either a highflow cat or full cat quiet things up a bit and reduce drone? Also all I see online are magnaflow cats. How are those or is stock only the way to go? I need to tone things down some. Any advice? I searched but can’t find a clear answer. Help me keep my amazing HKS!

Adding a cat or HFC will cause more drone.

I'm surprised you feel this way because that's the setup I have and it's fine.

I ran my HKS dual with HFC...it was very drony at low RPM. Your test pipe probably makes it sound louder but less drone.

I would just think that any cat would cut the noise and keep drone the same. On the highway at 4k RPM, there is some, perhaps a hair more than I would like. I love the WOT sound though and the appearance of the HKS dual. Looking to quiet her down some. What would a full cat do? Anyone try it yet this way?

I had an HKS dual with a full cat. It definitely toned the exhaust down. Probably added a tiny drone but to much more down low tone that was pretty dismissible. Overall it was very livable. A full cat is up your alley. HFC and TP will both just make it louder overall.

Thanks Jae2k. Do you recommend OEM cat or can I go with a full Magnaflow or something to that effect?

I had the same combo and it drove me crazy. For me the solution was to buy two Apexi active tail silencers and weld them on.

Just wanted to provide an update for anyone that this may help. After installing an OEM cat, the HKS high-power dual sounds amazing. Again, I had a Berk test pipe and it was loud with high drone, especially with the top up. With the stock cat, drone is about half and the overall volume is about half as well. The car still sounds amazing an pulls hard. Vtech is not quite as dramatic but for the type of driving that I do and for my age, this is much better. I would highly recommend the stock cat.
