Default How to make rear window fold correctly

Hi all,

First off, apologies if this is already discussed to death in another thread. I promise I searched for "rear window folding", "window folding", "rear folding window" and the search threw up a thousand threads none of which mentioned it..

So, when I put the roof down, I have to jump out and push the window so it doesn't crease. I know over a decade ago there was a guy making mods that stopped this from happening but all the threads have gone dead on that.

So can anyone suggest a solution? Or tell me how the mod worked so I can replicate it? Having to pull in to a car park to put your roof down because you don't trust it at the traffic lights is not cool!

Thanks in advance!
M

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. If all the parts in the roof (straps, cables, etc.) are present the roof should fold without your intervention. I've no clue if the early plastic rear window should fold or not and there are no instructions in the owner's manual other than unlatch from the windshield and press the roof switch to the rear.

It's a common problem with the plastic window on AP1s. When you fold the roof back, instead of folding neatly in half like it should, it creases and buckles, and folding further will cause it to crack and split. A guy back in early 2000s created a mod for the window to force it to fold correctly.

With 4,303 posts, I'm surprised you haven't replied to one of those old posts!

This is one of the reasons I decided to go with an 02/03. Think about getting a glass window. Well worth the $.

Hope you find the note I've got a glass window. I recall my Brit roadster windows got stiff with age and we laid a towel on them to protect when folded.

Thanks, but I'm looking for a slightly quicker fix that changing the roof or window or buying a whole new car.. I'm just looking for anyone who knows of or has seen the window mod so I can replicate. Can't find any pictures on the net and the existing threads are dead. Was even hoping the guy who made them might pop up..
