Default Kia sportage final drive works $267

For those that don't want to be ripped off. Turbo magazine did a great article on which cars have final drives that fit your s2k.

OK, I'm gonna ask a noob question, but I never bothered to learn about gearing. Can soemone give a quick once over to gear ratios for me.

I guess an easy way to describe it would be the higher the #...the quicker. Less top speed in every gear though.

F20 summed it up.

"Lower" gears usually means numerically high and "taller" gears conversely.

lower gears benefit NA apps more than FI

Those gear sets arent hard to find, just call your local junk yards, they should have some thing in the trash heap for you. Bring your own tools and save a bundle more, I even bet you could get it this way for under $100 (don't forget to bring a jack.)

Without turning this thread into another gears spin off here's my opinion; 4.44 are a good upgrade (the S should have came stock this way) 4.57 just a bit better but start to make me worrry about highway driving (although if gas prices keep dropping who cares!) 4.77 damn this is a high gear set, you will have to shift through out gears much faster than you may like, and you will lose the most out of all three in top end speed.

All in all, gears are all great when you're in the moment, get a gear you feel you can use on an every day basis. 4.44 4.57's

I have put 22k miles on my S with 4.77s. LOVE THEM! 50 highway miles a day too no problems and its not as bad as people think.
