Default k&n intake + stock oem box

So I had an password jdm intake off integras/civics on the s2000 to give it a shot. Heat soak was a major problem and I get stuck in traffic alot now since im on first shift now. So I thought of an idea. There was a k&n intake on craigslist with no heat shield for sale. I picked it up for $40 from a local member. I threw the stock box back on and started to trim a bit. Not too much trimming was needed. I attached some pics of what I trimmed and what it looks like with the lid on and off. Note that I did have to trim some of the piping on the filter side to fit the box. I took off about a inch and a half or 2 inches. Had to trim the lid a bit too to fit the filter. The most difficult part I would say is finding something to seal up the intake pipe and box. Thats up to you guys what you want to do with that. I sealed mine for now with something that covers up picture frames from being damaged and some friction tape (I think thats what its called). But seals up good. Started it up and feel the vacuum from the oem box.

Im sure some may ask "why didnt you just buy the intake arm and use a oem drop im filter". Well its $40 for a k&n pipe and filter on craigslist so why not? Try something different and a intake arm is pretty expensive imo. This is perfect for someone who doesnt have the heat shield for the k&n like I did and have the oem box laying around. It might even be better then the original k&n! Ha! So now I plan on getting a snorkel and gold wrapping the box and pipe. Let me know what you guys think.

Ps I dont believe in butt dynos. This was clearly for heat soaking problems.

Although its only minor it looks like there is a gap where the pipe goes into the airbox, is there anyway to seal that up?

Looks good though, I am currently working on a intake using the original box but has an extra air supply which will hopefully keep it a bit cooler too.

Yea I used some kind of packaging protector from home depot. Its for picture frames and that sort of stuff. Then I taped it with some friction tape so it would stay and take some rubbing away from the box. I wanted it to be soft enough to get a good seal. Worked out good so far. I didnt take a pic of how I sealed it. Ill get pics soon tho.

Looks good. I mainly like how clean the K&N intake arm looks with the OEM airbox, I have always hated the OEM intake arm.

I had the same though as you, if I was to do this set up, I would get a snorkel as well...well I wanted a snorkel to begin with lol

I like this. I wonder if it would help if you routed a hose to the circle opening from the passenger side of the airbox.

Did you get any increase in noise? I may have yo try this...

I dont get what you mean about routing a hose. Which hose are you taking about?

Theres definitely less noise compared to my last intake. So far I really like it and it looks clean. Cant wait to put a snorkel on and gold wrap it

If you look under the hood prop clip, you will see a big circle. It was just thinking it would help the intake breath better if you route a hose from the passenger side of the box to that hole to draw in cooler air.

I had a comptech icebox on my RSX and did something similar. It definitely helped the motor to run more consistent.

He plans on buying a snorkel, which would basically do the same thing, but it will be visible, while the hose will be more hidden.

Or do both! I wonder if that will benefit more with 2 airflows coming in. 1 from the snorkel and one from the passenger front duct to the box.

You actually get some ram air effect from the front snorkel though. At minimum, makes for a quicker ait drop after heat soak.
