Is my S2000 faster?
 

Hi, I have recently bought a medelion touring exhaust that was attached to a test pipe. My first impression was that I made a little bit of power. The engine seems to be running smoother than before and rpm climb a little quicker, Vtec crossover seem smother as well. Does that mean I gained some hp somewhere in the power band, or is it just my butt dyno?

yes.

You picked up a few ponies mainly thanks to the test pipe. If you want to explore methods of lowering your VTEC point you could gain a chunk of change in the mid-range.

How would we determine this based on a post? If you want to verify then get it measured (though that comes with its own caveats). Speculation from other forum users isn't going to prove anything one way or another.

You've gained something, but it is hard to quantify how much without doing back to back dyno testing with an OEM baseline and then swapping out individual parts with the OEM to determine how much is added by each aftermarket part and what they add as a whole. It's hard to produce objective comparisons without a large amount of methodical work removing as many variables as possible. A quality intake and tune in addition to what you've done will make a noticeable difference.


PS: I have a K&N FIPK, Berk Header, Berk 63.5 HFC, and Tanabe Medalion Touring and pulled a 221 hp/158 tq on a Mustang dyno (no tune) for whatever it's worth. I'm going to dyno the car at a different shop this weekend as a subjective second opinion. Even with that dyno pull being guaranteed accurate, I've seen cars with the same exact mods pulling different numbers on the same dyno.
