my NRG carbon dampers did not open the hood fully either, sounds like a design change to me, I bought mine within the last 2 years.

Ok, a small poll to determine if there was a design change or a mismatch at NRG ...
So those of you who have the fully opening dampers,
what is the newest purchase year?

Mine is 08/2009

These seem to be a solution in search of a problem. Standard setup works fine, costs nothing, and doesn't bend the hood if something goes wrong. Long hood barely clears my garage door when up though!

Mine are NRG, about as vertical as you can get. I got mine back in 06 or 07, can't remember now.

Chuck,
mine worked great for 10yrs without issues. If you have a cooling plate you can only use the hood prop on the max setting which isn't convenient

anyone else buy one recently with the full open position?

My NRG dampers do not open as vertical as the old ones, mine were bought in 2016 I believe. If you are looking for close to 90 degree open on your hood then you should look into SOS, I have these as well and they are as close to 90 degree as you can get. Good luck.

I'm quite sure they changed the design and you cannot buy the vertical ones anymore.

A design change is what it seems like, but NRG hasn't mentioned any. they seem puzzled communicating with my vendor about the length issue.
