I need some advice. I guy on craigslist in Chicago has an OEM hard top with everything. he's asking 3700 but I offered 3400. I go to pick it up and find out it was repainted and not original paint. and the paint needs to be redone. any advice and what to offer. I feel it would cost at least 400 to have reworked but I'm not sure I want to buy it since it isn't original.

maybe if your driving the car in and leaving the whole car $600 would be a fair price, but if your just bring in the hardtop and dropping it off $600 is too much unless your having the the top sprayed "oyster shell" or some other expensive paint

Is this the black one I saw recently on Chicago CL? It started at $4K asking price. The photos looked good but pics can be deceptive I guess. I think 3400 is more than fair given that it's been repainted and needs another repainting, depending on condition maybe $3000 is a good deal for you, $3200 is fair for both. The good thing is you can get it painted the way you want bad point is well....it's been painted. What color would you have it painted?

I've been watching the Chicago hardtop market for about a year via Craigslist alerts and there's not a ton that come up. For reference I bought my BB hardtop with hardware for $4K. It's original paint has a couple of small dents but could clean up real nice. I was desperate for a top at the time also and think I overpaid a bit watching the national scene. There is a tax to paid for convenience however...
