Default Replacing H1 Bulbs

Hi All,

Are all replacement H1 bulbs fit for serving as DRLs as well, similar to the factory-installed bulbs? I am trying to replace my very yellowish OEM H1 bulbs in my 2008 which I assume also serve as the DRLs. I definitely want something whiter to match the low beams, but not blue for sure. Will LEDs have a problem with acting as DRLs similar to the Halogen H1 bulbs? So many choices out there, with your advice, I will hopefully choose the right bulbs from the get go. Thank you.

LED DRLs usually have flickering issues, OR they're just always on at full bright. Most LED bulbs are made to operate @ 12v; I believe DRL voltage is in the realm of 5-6v. They do sell fancier bulbs with decoders and the like. I believe the Morimoto "2 stroke" would be something to look into for you?

Easy way to do this is buying a halogen bulb with a whitish hue.

The hard way is LED's. The ones I've seen always end up blinding oncoming traffic, which I feel is a greatly appreciated favor to all the people one is trying to impress.

One of our vendors used to market "dim-able" or "DRL compatible" LED high beams but when I last checked late last year he no longer offered them. DRLs on at least the US 2006 and later cars are the high beams at reduced voltage and On when the ignition is On and the car in (forward?) gear.

I'm running Halogens with a color closer to white than yellow at present.

What happens to the "yellowish" OEM bulbs when you go to high beams?

Do you have pics of the lights in DRL use?

Here ya go.

DRLs (reduced voltage high beams):

High beams:

The bulbs are premium priced Sylvania halogens with a blue tint or coating over the top 1/3 of the glass. Sorry but it's raining here. (The things I do for y'all. ) I may be able to find the bulb package. I suspect the color is warmer in DLR voltage. They may be brighter or whiter with the engine running vs just the ignition on.

Those look really great! Way better than the stock one. I've been researching an alternative as well, please do share the bulb make/model if you do end up finding it.

Just looked again for the package. No joy.

Only thing I'm sure of is they're Sylvania and only the top 1/4" is tinted blue. They're also at least 7 years old.

I believe you’re referring to the Sylvania Silverstar Ultras?
