Why would it cost $50?

Go douse it in brake cleaner, or if you want something milder then try Simple Green.

Uhh, a can of brake cleaner is like $3.

It probably came misted with a protective coating so it wouldn't corrode.

I'd avoid simple green since it can stain aluminum. Brake cleaner, or degreaser will clean it. So would hot water and dish soap just make sure to dry it out.

I was going to mention that but he said he was going to paint it anyways so it would be hidden.

Because I am a certified licensed technician and have used it for years.

Well, clearly you know what you need to do, this thread may as well been titled "I'm showing off the new part I just bought for attention even though I know how to clean it". If you have a problem with Ballade you should've emailed or phoned them.

if it was bored there is fine metal shavings in the intake, probably not a bad idea to hot tank it

it just dawned on me right after i made the post and googled around town for machine shops , i did e-mail ballade , they never responded , they should hot tank these before they ship them out, this makes them look amateur
