Default Steering wheel removal with pics

I saw a DIY posted on S2000.org and thought we needed one here. I installed EuroBoutique's flat-bottomed wheel to replace my stock one. I installed it the first time and discovered it was off by one spline so when I adjusted it, I decided to take some pictures.

Tools needed: breaker bar, 14 mm socket, T30 torx bit, extensions, pry tool, Phillips screwdriver, 10 mm wrench.

1. Make sure your wheels are straight forward as best you can tell. Disconnect your battery. Some folks say to wait 10 minutes, it's up to you.

2. Pop the panel covers on both sides of the steering wheel to expose the T30 torx screws and remove them.

3. Disconnect the air bag connector. Pull up on the outer sleeve and the connect will disconnect easily. You should not have to pry anything loose.

4. Remove the air bag carefully and pull the connect through the steering wheel housing.

5. Now you have access to the 14 mm bolt attaching the wheel and the screws to remove the horn switch and cruise control wiring. You'll need the T30 torx bit to remove the horn switch and everything else is the Phillips. Remember the screws for the cruise control bracket goes in from the back. Slide the connector for the horn off.

6. Now the fun part, use the breaker bar to loosen the 14 mm bolt. Leave the bolt in unless you want to kiss your steering wheel at high velocity. I'm a lightweight (a buck and a quarter) so I had to wiggle the wheel side to side a bit to get it free but a steering wheel puller is completely unnecessary IMHO.

7. After removing the bolt, note the position of the wheel, it would've probably helped to mark where the wheel is centered on the steering rack but oh well. Attach the steering wheel housing and cruise control on the new wheel before mounting the new wheel on. Remove your old wheel and install the new one. Reconnect the cruise control and horn and screw everything back together. Torque down the 14 mm bolt.

8. I would recommend reconnecting the battery and test driving it with the air bag off to make sure you you lined the steering wheel up correctly but it's your call. If you do that you'll have to reset the SRS light using this procedure. https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/525...s-light-is-on/ You're not "supposed" to use a piece of wire to reset it but it works just fine.

9. Screw everything back together and enjoy your new wheel!

Hope this helps someone out here. Here's a comparo shot of the new wheel vs. the original:[attachment=71952:IMG_20150107_220127_712.jpg]
