Test pipe?
I constantly see "test pipe" in the list of mods people have for their S2000's. What is the major benefit? Does it increase power? What is the typical cost and level of difficulty of install? What other mods do you suggest someone go for (engine wise) for their S2K?
I am trying to get my hands on a stock air intake box as I hear it's best and I have a K&N short ram intake now, or would a CAI be better? And since I have an AP1 would I benefit from a tune? I can't use Hondata right? |
00-05 can use hondata kpro conversions. but cannot use hondata flashpro

Is your short ram a K&N FIPK? Google it. That is better than the stock intake. The test pipe will add 5-7HP without a tune.

This is my intake
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...7a95f004ab.jpg I was reading online that a test pipe on the S2k does the following: - No real gains maybe some HP/TQ loss in some cases - Produces bad smell - Throws a CEL - Is louder (can be good or bad) - Better throttle responce - Is lighter than stock cat (weight savings) So far seeming not really worth it. I see an Invidia one for sale online for only about $60. |
Test pipes are illegal for street use in most states, so you'd also have to return it to stock for inspections if you have them there.
Bigger question is: What are you trying to do with your S? Track? Dyno numbers? Improve acceleration or handling? |

IMO 7 hp on a street car is not worth failing emissions testing (if applicable), a bad exhaust smell (especially with a convertible), and generally polluting a lot more than necessary. There are better ways to make more power.

Test pipes are not worth the time or hassle, or stink. The intake will help with throttle response however.
