What do you mean "start counting preload before/after hand tight"?
0 preload is when the perch touches the spring.
Anything beyond that is some amount of preload. how much play though is the question , as soon as it "touches"? or as soon as theres actual resistance on the gear?

I'm out, though. You seem to have a handle on this.

Enjoy.

Just like Jay Z and Eminem, I've come back for an encore.

0 preload is when the perch and spring touch.
ANYTHING beyond that is positive preload.

If you turn the collar 0.000000000000001mm after the perch collar and spring touch you now have 0.000000000000001mm of preload.

Again...remove the assembly from the car to make this clean and easy. Or...do it the hillbilly way and take the struggle bus whatever you want.

The spring starts out at 200mm.
If you want 10mm of preload, you would turn the perches upward and compress the spring until it measures 190mm.

I'm curious like a MF'ing kitten tho...how TF were you getting your preload measurement before, if you're asking this question now?
