Weird Test Pipe Sound
 

Today I had a 60mm test pipe from Invidia installed on my 2006 S2K. I noticed when accelerating it makes a tinty, kind of high pitched sound. When watching videos on the internet I did not hear this and thought it would bring a more rich sound to the exhaust. Has anyone experienced this problem with their test pipe? Is this how it is supposed to be?

I'm going to put the catalytic converter back on to it if this problem can not be figured out.

Exhaust sound varies greatly depending on the whole system, not just each part. What cat-back do you have?

Could be an exhaust leak. With the motor running get down on the passenger side and feel for gases leaking around the TP/header and TP/cat-back

This same thing happened to me when I just installed my car, every time I tapped the gas or was decelerating it would make a high pitch almost whine. It was not too loud outside I dont think but I could definitely hear it. Mine eventually wore itself out and no longer makes the noise. It may be a gasket?

Most likely it is a bad gasket or a leak. Normally a test pipe just makes your car louder and a little more on the raspy side since the Cat material usually muffles it a bit like a resonator. Buy new gaskets and tighten it down.

It's because you have the stock cat-back... Test-pipes give it a tinny sound and open it up. Louder exhausts hide this and you just hear it open up more.

Thanks, guys. So, I'm getting mixed reviews. Jordaninabox says, it will eventually wear in, mugenstylev6tec says, it most likeyl is a bad gasket or leak, and 07RioS2k says, it's because I have the stock cat-back on. First, I'd hope it would just be a matter of wearing it in, as jordaninabox, said. Secondly, if wearing it in isn't the answer, i'd hope buying a new gasket and tightening it down would do the trick. Lastly, I would hope putting a new cat-back on would take care of it, but this would be the absolute last thing I would do in order to get a cheap test pipe to make my car sound better. Hopefully Jordaninabox or mugenstylev6tec are correct, because I won't be buying a new cat-back.

I would say I put on a good 500 miles before I noticed mine go away, so if you are able to withstand the sound put up with it for a little and see what it does. Is there anyway you could get a quick video clip so we can see what the noise sounds like?

make sure gasket is seated nicely and all the bolts are wound tight... Its either just noise your not used to and normal or its an exhaust leak, logically it cant be anything else, its a 1' peice of frickin pipe..
