Default What is the reason for the J's Racing Dolphin Tip

Hi guys I have a J's Racing 70RS and I love it, Im not very sure how I feel about the dolphin tip, I think it looks a bit flaccid
Is there any actual reason for the dolphin tip?
And would it be sacrilege to cut it straight, maybe someone has already done this?

The dolphin tip helps keep the sound level down. It’s used for tracked that have noise restrictions.

What Manga_Spawn said, the dolphin tip (turn-down tip) points the exhaust away from any microphones at the track, that are put there to check if your exhaust is exceeding the noise limits of the track.

Also to prevent soot from building on your bumper and exhaust heat/flames from melting your bumper.

Hmm... never knew. I think they look great, didn't know they had a purpose.
What are the average noise level limits at some of the tracks?

Off hand, 94dB at Arizona Motorsports Park. Depends on the day at Laguna Seca... 90 or 92dB.

Honestly, I prefer trackdays with sound limits.

This is interesting, I wonder how much of a difference it actually makes. I wouldn't want it any louder though as is for my daily commute i have baffled it.

Imo dolphin tip looks badass. Way better than a big fart can from the 90s.

I too prefer the dolphin tip for the looks.

Side note if anyone happens to have a silencer they don't want let me know! Need one for my 70rs for those early morning trackday starts

You mean an insert? I made one for mine, not very pretty but does the job for early work morning.
