I was just thinking this as I read the OP. Because Ti yo :)

Stainless steel has even lower thermal conductivity and is much heavier=better on a shifter knob.

When I initially purchased my car, it came with the OEM Titanium knob. I drove it like that for about 2 summers. Whenever my top was down, or the sun was beaming in through the windows it would ignite that thing right up. I've near burned myself a handful of times before I decided to swap it for the 02-03 leather wrapped knob. The 02-03 knob still heats up but nowhere near as much as the titanium used to, which I'm sure has to do with the leather wrapping around it. If you intend on swapping over to the titanium knob for added weight I will tell you the difference is negligible. The OEM titanium weighs about 250g, the OEM leather wrapped weighs about 240g. I know most people with MY00 and 01s with the stock aluminum preferred the titanium for the added weight. The MY00 to 01 OEM knob weighed about 150g and was made of aluminum, almost half the weight of the OEM titanium knob. Honda noticed this and increased the weight of the 02+ knobs accordingly.

If you want my opinion, unless you're doing it for looks, stick with the OEM leather-wrapped knob.
