Default 02 s2k possible tct fail? Please help

I have an 02 s2k with 143k miles. Car was running good with no noises. I noticed
That my oil drain plug was leaking a lot. Was making a mess. I decided to drain oil
And plug it up while I got a new drain plug. It sat for about a week then I went ahead
Got new drain plug and some oil. Started it up and as u soon as u start it I could hear
A tapping sound. Sounds seem to come from around timing chain area. I don't think
It's the valves cuz valves sound good. Car was making no sounds before. I used penzoil
Conventional 10w40. I live in southern Cali so it's super hot so that's why I used 10w40.

Yep, just get a new TCT or have your worm gear sand blasted.

I got my TCT drilled slightly bigger so more oil could pump through, noise is gone.

I can't believe it went out just after doing an oil change.

Well...if you have has the car for 143k and never changed the TCT before, then you were running on borrowed time. Think about it this way, better to replace the TCT which is easy labor wise, versus having to change the TCT and chain guides.

Is that a different oil for you? If so, the previous oil might have a hint more viscosity than the current oil which was giving the TCT enough pressure to not make any noise.

There was a significant difference in oil pressure for me when I changed from Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 to Castrol Titanium 10w30. Castrol wasn't as thick, and oil pressure was lower, however it's a better oil in general and it actually burned less oil lol

Regardless, just fix your TCT issue, you don't want your chain to skip a tooth.. bye bye engine.
