30,000 Mile Service? Is this important?
I had my car at the dealer today and at 31,000 miles the dealer asked me if the car had gotten the 30k service or not?
It hasnt, is this something I should be thinking about? Anybody know what they do for the 30k service? Is it tranny/diff and brake fluid and spark plugs? or what? |
30k trans, diff, engine oil, air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs, In theory brake fluid should be flushed once a year but ehh I do it when I change pads or before track days.

Spark plugs are not called for until 100,000. No car sold in the US can require plugs to be changed prior to 100,000 miles.

For a 30k mile service. Your probably looking at these things. Oil and filter change, brake inspection, trans service, rear diff service, air filter, cabin filter, complete underbody inspection and depending on your dealer they may try to stuff some additional services down your throat like injector cleaning or power steering flushes. They also might itemize the underbody inspection as a way to get more money out of you, for example they might have a full suspension and steering component inspection, fuel and emissions component inspection, drive train inspection.
My advice to you if you want to have your car serviced is have these things done; oil change, trans service, rear diff service and maybe a brake inspection depending on how often you have your wheels off and can check out your brakes. Both filters are pretty easy to replace so i personally wouldn't pay for that either. Don't pay for any additional inspection, the tech will already be looking over your car for upsells as soon as it is in the air. I work at a dealer fyi. Also on a side note toyota recommends their spark plugs be replaced every 30k miles on some motors. |
^ we have electric power steering..

lol i must not have been thinking, but that doesnt necessarily mean they won't try to sell it as part of a 30k service. lol

You could save money and do all that yourself. Tranny and diff fluid change is super easy and there are plenty of DIY threads on here. There have been countless diffs ravaged by dealers giving/using the wrong fluid. Do it yourself and know that it was done correctly

Seriously? I'm gonna feel like a dick if I tell the dealer that I want them to make sure they use the right fluid... |
