Default Engine management vs. ......

I have an ap2 and have been going back and forth between a naturally aspirated build and doing a supercharger. in my budget this year i have done a lot of suspension and cooling work. i was thinking about also doing either a header and cams or increasing rev. limiter dropping vtec and tuning it with aem's ems. which is the more popular choice and what would the benifits be to one over the other?
