HPS Intake?
 

I came across this intake on Amazon. It's made by HPS and consists of a silicone intake tube and a larger K&N filter that requires modifying the stock airbox to fit.

I have heard that using a filter with more surface area could be advantageous, and gutting the stock airbox could theoretically improve flow, but does anyone think that this intake work well for both of those areas?

Not to mention the smoother intake tube.

Anyway, have a look and let me know what you think.

What do you think that will get you in HP? I'll bet you none if stock.
The stock air box does have a restriction, its the opening of the air box, not the intake arm or filter.

The Mighty Car Mods lads (those icons of all automobile knowledge) got 5 or 6 more HP at the wheels with a cold air intake when they had a S2000 -- an AP1. A couple of years ago.

The stock ECU can only tweak so much.

Yeah, I saw that Mighty Car Mods episode. Although, your results may vary. I had a cold air intake on mine, and it mainly made a nice sound.

Intake and exhaust are really more about sound than anything. You'd get more HP from a test pipe and a lot more with a tune of some sort though depending on the model year that can be pricey.

Took a closer look at the HPS and the one thing that can help hp is the velocity stack. But you can add one to the the stock intake arm for less money and get the same results or make your own intake arm from the t/b to the airbox for a lot less money.

Velocity stack and cold air is what will get you the best results from the intake.

Manga Spawn is absolutel correct on the power you can gain on the exhaust side and tune on the S, best bang for the buck.

Also, that dyno chart for the HPS is nice(and bogus) but I've never seen a hp gain/loss that looked like that one. The same gain from idle to redline, never seen a real one like that. Any time you change anything on a engine you will get more/less hp at different rpm's. So you can get a good jump in hp(I've seen 18 to 20 hp) in the mid range and just a few hp(around 5) up at red line or vice versa but like I've said I've never seen a hp gain that worked equally good all through the rpm range.

Yeah that dyno curve doesn't even look like a S2000.

I still may be interested in the cheaper $169 Ballade version though at some point. My stock intake arm is starting to get pretty weathered/cracked and the KN drop in filter has seen better days. I like that its not as heat conductive as metal piping and has some nice provisions for relocating the AIT sensor already built in. I also like the velocity stack which I currently don't have on my set up.

How do we feel about necromancers? :stir: typed in s2ki hps arm on google and came to here.

Anyways I'm bumping this because my OEM arm is starting to split and probably rest of it will follow along. UNLESS someone has an idea of some wipe or spray to keep this arm lasting longer?

@s2000Junky Did you eventually get the ballade version? I also had a K&N oiled drop in. I eventually went back to the OEM filter due to built in velocity stack and all this intake stuff seem extremely minuscule in gains. My end conclusion is a gutted oem box with a blocked resonator chamber with gorilla tape to a ballade TB.

Only merit I can see to buying a silicone arm or another arm is if the OEM is obsolete. Lets see some proofs!

I've heard somewhere/one few years back that the oem intake filter can outflow a 6.0? At this rate I might buy this filter for my ISF... HMMM not sure how true this is of course, do not know where to even begin to try searching for that info or finding proof.

I went with the DBW HPS intake arm, and put together my own 6" velocity stack that merges into a large afe filter which fits into the factory gutted air box. Its also for sale if that interest anyone. I no longer am using it being back to supercharged. Can PM me if so.
