JDM AP2 Project ITB NA Timeattack

18 Attachment(s)
Hi all! Well I've owned my MY08 AP2 for about 1.5 years and have now confirmed my project to be a NA build. So I thought it would be nice to open up a thread to share our build and progress. Gonna start the thread with the parts that I started with last year and also update with my current ITB NA setup, as well as future updates on the work that is done on this car. The car's aim is timeattack on the Sepang F1 Circuit, but it remains a daily driver. Aim is overall balance of power, response and handling.

Current PB on Sepang F1 circuit(5.543km): 2:36.830 (MPT Timeattack Round1 June 13, 2009)

In 2009, we decided to go with a ITB setup. Stage 1 of our Jenvey ITB has been completed very recently. DBW was removed and replaced with a regular throttle cable setup. VSA has been disabled as it's controlled by the e-throttle. Engine is still totally stock standard, including stock camshafts. Clutch, flywheel and final drive are stock as well. The car does need a new clutch....and an aftermarket LSD soon.

Supporting mods
J's Racing TwinFX catback exhaust
J's Racing SPL headers
Custom testpipe
Denso 400cc injectors
Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket
Hondata K-Pro

Other mods
HKS Hipermax III Sport
SPC camber ball joints
Beatrush front and rear underbody brace
Spoon baffled oil pan
Greddy NS1310G oil cooler kit
ARC breather tank
Mugen Fanswitch/Modified stock thermostat (I totally give up on J's Racing fanswitch and thermostat!)
Feels stainless clutch line
Mugen stainless teflon brake lines
Ferodo DS3000/DS2500 brake pads
Acre SLT rotors
Recaro RS-W/RS-G
Takata 4pt harness
Momo Tuner 350mm
WorksBELL GTC Rapfix
WorksBELL short boss kit
Defi VSD-X with oil/water temp and oil pressure sensors
Seeker Oil Cap/Billion radiator cap
J's Racing magnetic engine oil bolt/transmission oil bolt/diff oil bolt
APR GT200 gt wing
APR carbon radiator panel
Dry Carbon GT mirrors (manufacturer unknown)
Volk Racing CE28N and lugs

Engine Oil: Roar RS 10W40
Coolant: Billion Type PG+
Brake Fluid: Wedsport REV fluid
Gearbox Oil: Motul Gear300 75W90
Differential Oil: Motul Gear Competition 75W140

Car idles well around 1000-1100rpm. Vtec engages @ 4700rpm, revcut @ 8600rpm.

The custom open top box around the ITBs is part of the stage 2 setup, which will be about fabricating a custom air channel/guide and reservoir for the ITBs, whilst leaving the ITBs open and not boxed up fer circuit events. During stage 2, we might also fabricate a race exhaust for circuit use only. We are in the process of customising some filters for the ITBs for daily drive usage as well, and will probably do some testing to see the extent of power loss with filters on. Stage 3 eventually would probably involve camshafts, camgears and engine work. Along the way we hope to fit on an aftermarket LSD, pillowball arms and other handling/aero parts, along with further lightening. Car currently weighs in at 2660lbs with a full tank of petrol, including the audio system.

Tuning the ITBs is not mission impossible, but it is indeed more tedious than regular tuning, particularly for idling and partial throttle. We ran the car before and after on a brand new Mainline/Dynolog AWD1500 dynamometer, which is the official dyno used in Australia for Autosalon's Dyno Battle. Dyno readings will also taken on an updated Dynapack chassis dynamometer to compare with our previous dyno chart there with the Hondata K-pro tune to show the true gains of just the ITBs alone.

Uber Garage has done a very neat job in installation and tuning together with Joel from Driven Performance has been a great experience. I personally have been very happy working together with them on this project car. Been good working with Roar Lubricants Singapore as well, who are supplying the Roar RS engine oil, as well as researching on a gearbox/differential oil for the car. I sincerely thank the people who have been supporting my build and hope we will continue to move forward together.

We brought the car down to Sepang F1 circuit recently to test the new ITB setup and everything ran smoothly, except fer a slipping clutch. Oil temp only saw a max of 99degC, water temp max @ 90degC after 6 consecutive hot laps around the 5.5km circuit. Ambient temps in Sepang are usually easily around 35degC on a clear day and it does get very hot out there. We will try to plug in a Scangauge to get IATs the next time out @ Sepang. Currently we have fabricated a custom air duct underneath the car that channels some air to the ITBs as a temporary solution. I currently have a personal best at Sepang F1 circuit doing 2:37.247 on the previous setup before the ITBs, running on 225/255 Bridgestone RE55S. We are currently testing and adjusting our 255/255 setup on Bridgestone RE-01Rs and we hope to eventually bring the timing down below 2:35 this year. J's Racing S2K did a best time of 2:24 on full slick tires last year during the Merdeka Millenium Endurance 12hrs race.

I will post up some dynocharts soon.

Below are pics that we snapped through the ITB process...as you can see, the airhorns were overlapping each other and we decided to machine the edges, so as to let the air horns sit side-by-side nicely. Painful to have to machine the airhorns but the end product came up good.
