Default Need to buy a new Engine for my S

So just got back from the shop about a hour ago. Basically I'm on borrowed time and the engine can go out anytime. Wanted to know a list of shops in the SJ Bay area that can swap an engine. I got quoted $4,000 for a new engine from Honda. It would have 0 miles and have a 1 year/12k mile warranty. Any help is appreciated.

yes you can change the crank and bearings, but its more time to do that cause u gotta do clearance checks etc to go that route. generally, going to a dealership, they would rather change the motor and not do internal work like that, cause its quicker and proably more reliable, i would not trust a dealership to do internal work like that. lol... they would more than likely send it off to a machine shop to have the crank changed, and again, more time they dont want to spend. have them change the motor and keep the bad one and get it fixed for a spare or sell it

actually, thinking about it, cant quite remember, but the motor mounts maybe in the way to be able to do this while installed. i know as myself being a mechanic and to get a good product in the end, pulling the motor to do that kind of work is the best option or change it all together...

you cant remove the crank w/the motor in the car w/o doing a ton of extra work. Trans, clutch and flywheel would have to come out.

Chances are if you messed up a main bearing the block is toast anyway. $4000 for a new motor installed is a pretty good price, especially w/a warranty.

Engine is $4000. Labor is about $2000, new parts like water pump, tensioner, and extra are another $1000.

Total is $7,000

if its just the crank / bearings, couldn't you just swap out the short block? The head should be fine unless it got starved of oil or something. I'll be swapping just the block in the next month or so and plan on doing the whole thing for about ~2k total. I got a rebuilt block for a steal at 1k and will be having friends do the install, so no warranty obviously, but hey, $5k saved is worth a shot imo.

Yeah it would be just the block....

Where did you find your replacement block?
