Default Question about the power I made and my gears

So I dynoed my car a few days ago and I want to know your guys input on if I am making the right power.

My Mod's are listed in my SIG. I have intake, header, exhaust, Neo tune and 4.77 final drive ( I know the final drive doesn't add power ). I made 220 whp (dynojet)

So does that sound pretty good or right to you guys? I enjoy this set up ALOT and the gears just topped it off.

Another question I had is about my 4.77 final drive ( I have a AP2 ). I have had my gears for about half a year or more now and haven't really launched the car at all, but want to get good at it if I ever want to take it to the track. The problem is that I can't seem to get the launch down. It seems like it has to much power off the line and tend to spin the tires most of first. My vtec is set at 5K rpm. Like I said I haven't launched with the gears many times ( maybe 3 times ). Does anyone have these gears or have experience with them to help me out? I usally rev it to about 5 and kinda dump it. Should I feather it or launch at a lower rpm ?

Thanks for any input!

Practice in the rain. Learn how to feather. Take's a lot of practice to be a good experienced driver ..

I mean I didn't have a problem before gears, but with the gears it is like night and day. It feels like it has way more torque down low. That's why I thought of lowering my RPM to 4K. I don't think practicing in the rain will help other then spinning tires badly

i would say your numbers are pretty good. I made 228 with similar mods but i have a 70mm berk hfc too.

How do you like the 4.77 in your ap2? is it annoying? I want gears but fear i will hate the 4.77...

Yeah I am a little disappointed with my numbers. I thought the T1R 70RT would make a lot of power. Claims 10-15 whp. ONE thing I forgot to ask guys is the header I am using. It is a JVT header. It is for a AP1, but is on my AP2 ( didn't think it would make to big of a difference ). My friend had it on his AP2 motor and said it made a little power. Never did a dyno before the header so I don't know what it did. I put the full exhaust on at the same time with the tune. Do you think this is holding me back or maybe the tune I got isn't very good? I don't know how good the tuner was, but the lines on my graph look really smooth so I don't know. I see other S2000's making 235ish with same mod. I feel like something is wrong

To be honest I really like the 4.77 gears ALOT! it makes the car no only faster, but makes it 10X fun to drive plus the car sounds beastly shifting faster with this exhaust.
I wouldn't recommend it if you do a lot of highway driving. At 80 mph you sit at 5K rpm, which is where my vtec kicks in so I cruise around 78 to 79. Another funny thing that sometimes people think I am trying to race them or drive fast because of the shifting. SO i get a lot of people trying to race so, which kinda gets old. This includes mini vans and ect lol. You will feel like you have way more torque, which our cars need. I don't need to give it much gas to get it going. love it

i have not seen any ap2's making 235ish with those mods. All the ap2's I see are in the 220-230 range 230 being on the high end. You have to remember that every dyno reads differently and there are a lot of different variables that can make numbers higher/lower. I am not familiar with the JVT header so i dont know how well it performs. Most headers do not give much power anyway The highest hp ones are going to be hytech, j's, and toda which are all over 1300. I personally am running the PLM header because it is a j's replica and it has been proven to make similar power.

and yeah i do a good amount of highway driving so I will probably avoid 4.77 haha!

More clutch slip and you'll get the launch down better.

I had 4.77's on my '02 AP1, and loved them on the street. However, I think I would hate them in my '08 AP2.

Your dyno numbers shouldn't be compared to any other dyno numbers here. Different dyno, different car, different day = not worth discussing. If you want to know how yours compares to other S2000's, ask the dyno operator to give you some dynojet run files from other S2000's he's dyno'ed. Then you can download the dynojet run viewer (Winpep) for free to make whatever comparisons you want.
