Resonator without perforated tube

Hi fellow s2ki member,

I have recently removed the perforated tube from the resonator of ASM S-Special exhaust:

Basically the 70mm exhaust pipe is disconnected now with a big resonator having a bit of empty space that will fill up with exhaust gas.
Does anyone know if this setup will have any negative effects?

increase turbulance, and increase back pressure as flow isnt optimum anymore, might lose some power

Yes a big 0 from me..
Its really f**d up the scavenge, frequency & back psi the box as designed for.
Step 2
Replace & help restore > Special ASM -S. design

It did raised the engine pressure by 1 bar. Circuit driving had no issue though, other than the higher engine pressure spew out oil through PCV much more than it used to.
Ended up making my own straight pipe to replace the resonator in all. The sound changed significantly but still not crazy loud as J's 70rr.

A more efficient solution.

Hmm now there's an idea for the stock exhaust...remove its resonator (but leave the Helmholtz in) and hear what it sounds like... should reduce back pressure too based on the above?

Several people have done that in the past. Pretty much everyone instantly regretted the decision. If you want better sound on stock exhaust, just do the U.K. Mod.

Thanks for the heads up. Guessing it became too bassy/droney in car?
