Default 2011 Speed Ventures S2K Challenge #5, CVR Results

S2K Challenge Event #5 - Race Summary - June 5, 2011
Article by VitaRenovatio

Round Five of the 2011 S2K Challenge Series was held in the newest track Southern California: Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. Located in Desert Center, California, two hours drive east of Los Angeles, CVR is a 17-turn, 2.7-mile road course that is both high speed and technical. CVR has multiple mid-corner camber changes, subtle elevation changes and decreasing radius turns that caught many drivers off guard. This event saw many competitors going off track multiple times in nearly every session. This was somewhat encouraged by large, safe runoff areas that posed little consequence to drivers who tried to aggressively push their cars to the limit as quickly as possible.

Again, the name of the game was fastest laptime of the day. With temperatures jumping up rapidly with each session, and grip and power decreasing just as rapidly, competitors tried to put down a fast laptime as quickly as possible.

Modified-R Class saw the return of Chris Elders. Having visited CVR a couple times prior, and armed with NT01's, Chris dominated his class (and the entire competition, including Aaron Bitterman's Orange S2K) with a 2:00.708 in Red 3. In 2nd Place was Justin Tailor with a 2:05.3.3, and Richard Seegman in 3rd Place with a 2:08.073.

Modified-S Class was missing some key contenders, as Mark found himself all alone in his class. Shod with fresh RS-3's, Mark was able to fight the heat and put down a very solid 2:01.776 in Red 3.

In Street Class, both Konstantin Nikiforov and Albert Gavieres made their triumphant return after their respective mishaps at the last event in Spring Mountain. Albert Gavieres took an early lead over Konstantin, having visited CVR once last year. However, Konstantin learned the track with unbelievable rapidity, breaking into the 2:05's by Green 2 and clocking a best of 2:05.425 in Red 3. Albert Gavieres struggled to find grip and balance in the heat, but managed a respectable best of 2:06.656 in Green 3. Nam Yoon proved that practice and DOT-R's were the perfect combination for the technical track and scorching track temperatures. Having practiced the day prior, Nam threw down the gauntlet early in Red 2 by breaking into the 2:03's, then improved to 2:03.082 in Red 4, despite the higher afternoon temperatures. This put Konstantin in 2nd Place, and Albert in 3rd Place. Mike Kang was in 4th with a 2:09.734, Adrian Torres in 5th with a 2:11.080, and David Lara in 6th with a 2:15.966.

In Stock Class, Douglas Chan again expertly demonstrated what a stock S2K is capable of, putting down a blazing 2:08.067 in Green 4. Joseph Jafry clocked a solid 2:12.256 for 2nd Place.

Drivers unanimously agreed that Chuckwalla Valley Raceway is an excellent addition to Southern California's offerings. CVR is a safe and very technical track. Many drivers agreed that their favorite part is Turns 4 and 5, that is strikingly similar to Turn 8 of Istanbul Park Circuit, Turkey--also known as the quadruple apex "Diabolica" that many F1 drivers agree to be the trickiest turn in Formula 1.

Join us for Round 6 at the world famous Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca on June 25!

The runoff room is.... simply put... amazing.

People were flying off track all day because they could with almost no penalty.

Also, the runoff is groomed to stay FLAT.

Here's a video from Lawrence, who drives a BMW M Coupe. It has footage of some epic mishaps of some S2K Challenge drivers...

I was happy with my 2:12 in stock class. Obviously Douglas Chan ran a 2:08 because hes a great driver, but Im curious how your car was setup? I had 235f/ 255r RS3s. S2 Js camber joints.
Alignment:
Front -3.5cam
6.5 caster
0 toe

Rear -2.3cam
1/8" total toe in
