Write up!

This past Sunday the Maxxis S2K Challenge braved the summer heat and rolled into Auto Club Speedway. Nothing tests your car as well as nerve like throwing it into the banking of turns one and two at over 125 mph. The morning sessions were somewhat cool and drivers were able to send it into some pretty impressive laps.

Stock Class had one lonely competitor. The lack of aero and high top speeds tends to scare off stock cars at ACS. Still Yukio Kishimoto threw down an impressive lap time of 2:02.461 in a bone stock car. Impressive!

Street Class had two competitors. Typical street class cars are modded with coilovers and or springs and a square tire setup. Ryan LaFontaine set a 2:02.342 in the heat of the day to take second place. First place is challenge veteran Fernando Muga. Fernando dropped a 2:00.439 in Red 2 to take home the win! Great driving from both competitors.

Mod class is proving to be the class with the most competitors. 10 participants threw it down on Sunday. Many were Challenge first timers. Here is how they shook out. Taking home 10th was Adan Calderon with a 2:10.734. As Adan put it, He sent it. 9th place and winning a lunch from Adan was Yanfeni Lopez with a 2:10.241. 8th spot was Andres Villa with a 2:09.574. 7th place was Miguel (I cracked a GoPro) Castaneda with a 2:09.400. This was a new PB for Miguel! 6th place belonged to Michael Guyette with a 2:06.721. From 5th and up was the Sub 2 club. Isn’t quite as impressive as Sub 2 at Buttonwillow but a Sub 2 is a Sub 2! Cevin Burke took 5th with a 1:59.473. This is a new PB for Cevin and several seconds faster than last years times at ACS. 4th place belonged to Ali Ghanizad. Ali was driving a car that was new to him and still set an impressive 1:58.789. Now to the Podium! 3rd place and current Mod Class points leader was Ryan Delgrosso. Ryan set a 1:57.562 in Red 2. 2nd place went to Richard Huang with a 1:57.068. Richard proved his sub 200 whp car can still hold its own on the power track of ACS. Top honors went to Jason Woan. Jason set a 1:56.764 to take home the win!

Super Mod had three competitors. Rounding out the podium was Alex Zhao with his beautiful Kraftworks wide body! Alex set a 1:55.709 in the heat of the day. Second place was Dave Lara with a 1:54.061 in Red 2. Great time for an NA car at ACS during the summer months. Top honors went to the second Kraftworks powered car. Dustin Dessero was chasing down GT3’s all day when he set his 1:48.567 in Red 2. Some said he was lifting going into T1 but in actually he ran out of gearing at the top of 6th!

Great turnout for a track that typically doesn’t suit the S2000. Our next event is back to Buttonwillow!!! October 14th Saturday! Hopefully the only late summer heat will be on the track!

Big thanks to our sponsors Maxxis Tires, Rockstar Garage, 949 Racing and TrackSpec Motorsports.

Remember the Maxxis tire Contingency. 10% off tires plus free shipping! Show up and compete in 4 events on a Maxxis tire and win 1 free tire. Its not too late in the season to jump on this and earn a free tire!

Till next time, see you at the track!
