245/40/17 on rear AP2 wheels
 

I have an '07 S2K and am setting it up for non-competitive HPDE. So far: CR springs/shocks; SS brake lines with Urge rears and Girodisk fronts, both ducted; front CR swaybar not yet installed. Stock engine with FlashPro tune and HFC. I will order rear AP2 wheels and have them bored, for a square setup. I've read that 255's can be used without rolling the fenders, but bending the tabs. Would 245's be a better fit for the wheels? Maxxis RC1's would fit, but would they be too sticky for the CR suspension? How about the Dunlop Z3 in 245? 245 reviews are hard to come by. By the way, the square setup will be for HPDE only...I'll keep the stock wheels/tires for street. I would appreciate any comments. Thaks.

If these spec's are to be trusted you will be fine with 255 but they will be a little pinched, shouldn't even need to touch the tabs.

RC1 is not too sticky for CR suspension.

If you fit AP2V2 rear wheels to the front let me know if you want to sell your 2007 front wheels. I need one (1) or my 2006 but will buy both if I have to.

Chuck, I'm hanging on to the stock wheels/tires for DD.

Do you really want a slick for "non-competitive HPDE"?

Also, is an OEM wheel really the best alternative? TireRack has their own 17x9+62 wheel for $188 and the Enkei PF01 17x9+60 for $90 more. The 255/40 Hankook R-S4 are $160 and the complete setup, mounted and balanced, is under $1400. RE71r's would be $100 more. I can't imagine any reason to use ZIIIs over the RE71r.

I like the look of the OEM wheel and they have deep offsets. I've driven slicks on my Fox Mustang for non competitive HPDE for several years. I was concerned about 255 width re: fenders, but have decided to go with 255's, so now the RS4 is the tire I will go with. Thanks for the info.

Crawfish time: I had a look at the Tire Rack wheels with the 62 offset and they look nice. Thanks for the tip.

I just got the Tire Rack 62 offset wheels and tried them on. To be on the safe side, I will run RS4 245x17x40. I plan on F/R 2 degrees neg camber, zero front toe, 1/8 total rear toe. Stock height with CR dampers/springs. Just eyeballing the front rims in place, I wonder about the tire/spring clearance with the above camber. Full disclosure: I don't know yet what the current alignment specs are. If clearance is a problem, should I go with longer studs and a 3mm or 5mm spacer? And if so, then shouldn't the same be done for the rears? Thanks.

That wheel is used in STR with -3+° front camber, 255/40-17 tires, and coil overs with 2.5" springs. Not sure about the increase in diameter with the OEM springs.
