Default After market ECU options for 2004

i am interested in lowering my VTEC engagement on a mostly street driven 2004. I will occasionally track the car with Many mods already done (HKS hypermax 3 coilovers, berk testpipe, HKS exhaust, light flywheel, .....). So years ago the options were like $3000. Looks like I can do it for much less now. Any recommendations?

I would suggest Kpro. Best street driven manners out there and if it matters, itll even pass smog.

The E85 flex-fuel option is also nice.

It doesn't pass smog in Arizona, for one (which means it might not pass other places, also)

As indicated, Kpro has the potential to fail smog now. Another option is Doctronics, but I haven't seen enough reports about smog testing with it to know if it will pass, but the unit does not require all the modifications that Kpro does, so you can easily swap back in your OEM ECU for testing. A third option that will pass smog as it piggy-backs your OEM ECU would be the Greddy EMU. While the 2nd two options may not be as widespread in familiarity (among non-S2K focused tuners), a compentent tuner should be able to work with any of those platforms. I would suggest checking with your local sub-forum members to see if they are aware of any failures of smog with OBD II equipped aftermarket options.

Here's what's involved with installing the KPro on the 2004-2005 AP2:
Project S2000 - Hondata KPro Gives More Power and Better Power

It passed Cali smog, getting plugged into the smog computer. What's new with smog in Georgia where it might not pass?

There’s nothing special in Georgia. We get the mirror on a stick for cat check, and an OBDII scan. That’s it, unless there’s a “visitor” at the shop and they randomly sniff the OBD cars.

I don't know what differences there are between the different OBD2 tests, but AZ only runs an OBD2 diagnostic/readiness check for 96+ cars and you will fail it if using a Kpro. It could start filtering to other states eventually.

I run the Greddy EMU here in Arizona. Karcepts STR base tune with vtec down at ~4300-4500 area... I can attest that my car walks away from other AP1s at the track, and I am stock motor wise other than an AEM hot air intake and berk HFC, including stock exhaust.

Came here to recommend Karcepts as well. He's made it fairly plug and play with proven gains.
