Building SK2 for ITR class. Build Question

I am finishing a build for our S2K that we will be running in the ITR class.

I am taking out the interior right now to add on to the roll bar to complete the cage.

There is a panel that is behind where the seats where, the seatbelts were bolted to this.

Seen here in this pic

Does this panel need to be in the car? Does it have any structural purpose?

you dont need it with a roll cage for stiffness. But your seat belts attatch to it. Also to make the weight you are going to need you might as well leave it in. In my race car I took it out but I am not running itr. I wanted weight savings.

yeah not needed for structure. Not sure tho if the ITR rules allow it to be there or not.

To help jeremy if it doesn't say you can you can't.

With all due respect, I think you are just beginning rather than just finishing. To answer the question anything which bolts on has to go or put another way anything you need a grinder to get off MIGHT be required.

I understand about the weight but I would rather be under and have to add weight back in where I would like to for better weight balance.

Yep I know that one. I have printed all the rules out and I am making sure they are followed to the T

Thats just the thing.
you can not add weight where ever you want to.
I weigh 2537 with 4 gal of fuel and the passenger seat in.
I need to add just over 250 lbs to the car and I can only add it to the passenger floor behind the firewall and not behind the passenger compartment.

so that also states I can not add weight to the trunk where I would like it.

If I were you I would put whatever you can back there.
firebottle, accusump, makeup kit..... *ducks*
I don't know anything you can think of that they will not say why is that there.

also add extra tubes in the cage down low.
like extra side bars or a few extra cross bars or dash bars.

Cool thanks for the info. I will plan on mounting as much as I can in the rear of the car. Good idea on the extra bars in the cage.

One other question. I know the heater core and hoses need to stay intact. Will that prevent the addition of a dash bar? I have not got the dash out of the car yet. I guess I need to get my rear in gear.

all I have left in there is the heater core and box for it with a dash bar.
I did take out the whole ac unit and hvac controls.
